Meet Carmella Terrell of The Hair Clinic in Lake View Terrace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmella Terrell.

Carmella, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started this company on a whim. I woke up one day and said what am I waiting for. Why am I not following through with my dream? So, I took a risk and put everything I had into opening my own salon and finally being my own boss.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a long road with a lot of struggles and finding my path along the way. In the process of trying to figure out what I was destined to do. I experienced the careers of teaching, nursing, and public relations. Until I finally looked at myself and said, why am I not doing what I’ve always loved doing. I had already had my cosmetology license but was not putting it to any use as a professional. My 3 children were older and no longer needed me as much, and I helped my husband complete his life career goals. So, what was I waiting for? So, I stopped focusing on everyone else and start focusing on me. It’s been one of my proudest moments in my life and I see no reason to stop anytime soon.

The Hair Clinic – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started The Hair Clinic in 2015. I do everything pertaining to cosmetology. From hair, nails, make-up, and skin care. I specialize in in color, cutting, natural hair care, and extensions. I am known for my extensions and keeping natural hair healthy and growing. I am most proud of how far my company has grown in the little amount of time I have been opened. I love me my staff have grown to become a family and have a family style work environment. We stand out from other salons because we are a multicultural salon who specializes in all hair types. Also, we know that it is important to listen and care for each person that walks through our door. In addition, we love what we do and take pride in our work. We also love seeing our clients walk out with that extra step of sass and a smile on their face.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Always knowing that you don’t know everything and can always learn something. This business changes every day. We must stay on top of it by consistently taking classes to build our skill set. That is the most important thing to our success as stylists.
