Meet Carley Lusk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carley Lusk.

Hi Carley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
From the moment I moved to Los Angeles, I knew the time would fly by. Everyone was a new friend, and upon meeting someone I would ask, “How long have you lived here?” The responses were all the same, the time frame followed by a shocking “Wow has it been that long?!” Today marks about 4 years for me. Musically formed in Detroit Michigan, I chased my dreams all the way out to Hollywood. Los Angeles has become my second home and I would describe it as a beautiful, magical place, with many lessons, and a lot of music. From my first show, where I sang proudly for a crowd of 4 people at the Pig and Whistle, to performing for hundreds at Iconic nightclubs such as Delilahs, I have learned to be strong, very entertaining, and extremely focused. Now for the first time, I perform venues with my own live band, all original music and I am so proud! Each song is special and represent my journey, sometimes beautiful sometimes heartbreaking. I came out here searching for fame, but music is so so much more than that, and what I have learned is so am I. The Next step for me is to do something with this unreleased E.P! I am so excited to share and am planning my next steps carefully. It’s my duty to represent myself and the music as genuinely as possible. My goal is to spread my love where ever it needs to be, and trust it will get there.

LA you aren’t my forever home; I will always be a Michigan girl at heart. But it was you who made my bones strong.

Come see us perform, and follow me for stories, laughs, good music, and friendship… Keep your eye out for this R&B soulful E.P filled with spirituality, heartbreak, and drama. Bye for now! @carleylusk

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A career in music is far from smooth! If it was, everyone would have one because the highs are so powerful, but the lows man they can get you down. It’s the support from friends, my dad, and my sister Kaitlyn that motivate me. Overall, my insight is that the struggle make you stronger. I have a whole lot but let me crunch it down for the sake of you the reader 😉

Knowing who to trust, knowing how to spend your time, being able to take constant rejection and keep pushing, working to pay rent and finance your career at the same time (where my independent artist at), staying healthy and positive, and lastly being okay with where you are. Enjoy your journey! Every struggle is a lesson and you have to be happy with the present moment because that is all we really have.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a vocalist and songwriter. I play instruments such as piano and guitar, but when performing live I leave those instruments to the pros. I write music from my soul and like to think I sing it that way as well. I have always been a creative writer and never knew what to do with it until I found music. Creativity has always flowed through me and has shown up in many ways outside of music, but songwriting is the number one source… I lose track of time when I am writing and it’s always been this way. It’s funny how when you lose track of time you become the most present.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like the pool of interesting people and the art that comes from them. I don’t love the traffic, and I can never find a parking spot.
