Meet Carla Perez of Besame Mucho Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Perez.

Carla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always carried a camera as a teenager and well into my 20s, especially when I traveled. It was a simple point & shoot camera but I had fun with it and enjoyed every second of shooting my surroundings and people. One day, out of nowhere, my husband surprised me with a “fancy” camera. I felt ecstatic and full of joy having it, so I decided that I would research as much as humanly possible and learn how to use it, with its fancy buttons and all.

As I was on my quest to learn how to use my new camera, I stumbled across two amazing photographers who showcased women that were Curvy, over 30, and of course all shapes, & sizes. I, like many others, was used to seeing women who looked like Victoria Secret models, being showcased in high-end photoshoots, which I thought, set an unattainable standard of beauty.

Once again I was on a quest, I wanted to showcase ALL women and show the world that everyone can look gorgeous. I learned how to pose and photograph All women, of every age and size to look absolutely beautiful, just as they are. I wanted to change the idea of what “beauty standards” are. I took that goal of wanting to change beauty standards and molded my studio and craft to reflect it.

In my heart, I believe that together with my clients, we have created reinforced the fact that we are all beautiful! I created a business that welcomes one and all to experience what a high-end photo shoot is like and leave with stunning portraits to cherish. I want to take the best portrait you have ever seen of yourself.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The challenges have been the way women think of themselves. Many women think they have to lose that extra 10, 15, 20 pounds, or they need to be a certain age or look a certain way in order to feel beautiful enough to take stunning portraits of themselves.

Please tell us about Besame Mucho Photography.

This is especially true in their headshots. I absolutely feel that these women stand out from their competition with headshots from Besame Mucho!

I believe what sets my business apart from other photographers is, I invest my time with you from start to finish. I start the entire process with a consultation to design a dream photo shoot, or create a vision for your business, or guide you with your branding. I also guide you with wardrobe, what fits and looks best, colors that highlight your eyes, skin, and smile.

During the photoshoot, it is not as simple as, “ok smile” rather, I will pose you from head to toe all the way to tiniest of detail, so it looks natural. I do not have a set time limit and rush through your session. Your photoshoot day is all and is just for you. I created a business that welcomes one and all to experience what a high-end photo shoot is like and leave with stunning portraits to cherish. I want to take the best portrait you have ever seen of yourself.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I now believe in the power of networking, connecting with others and giving back. I believed that “if you build it they will come.” With the caveat that if you build it and tell no one that you are here, no one will know you even exist. It is crucial to connect with others, and not all networking places are the same. Find a couple that works best for you.

I have found my tribe of entrepreneurs & like-minded souls. This has helped me grow personally & professionally. We understand and learn from each other who have been there done that, succeeded & failed. I say find your tribe, find your like-minded people, connect with others and get out of your own way.

Now that I know how important networking & connecting with other entrepreneurs, I would have done it at the beginning of my business. Not only for the business side of networking but the emotional part as well. Others will be able to guide you, share their experiences, help you find an answer and you won’t feel alone on this venture of being your own boss.
