Meet Carla Escamilla of Mila’s Charming Photography in The Antelope Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Escamilla.

Carla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My photographic journey began in 2008. I developed my first roll of film that year and I LOVED it. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. To have your work appear like magic is one of the most exciting things I’ve ever experienced. That same year I bought my first DSLR and I was hooked. Through the years, I went through the motions of being “shutter happy” which was taking about a million shots to hopefully get a few got shots. Now It’s the complete opposite. I worked many hours on trying to understand every aspect of light and the camera and went from shooting a bunch of shots to shooting about 50 frames for each session. It’s nothing bad for artist that do that but for me it was a personal goal to spend less time in post-production so I had to relearn everything I had learned from the beginning.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not one bit. I’m not sure if it’s an artist thing but I’ve definitely had my beatings emotionally with this. The idea of being a photographer in a saturated market really made me really depressed at times. Once I got past that hump I pushed myself harder and it has brought me to an amazing turnout and honestly, I absolutely LOVE my clients and would not be here without them.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mila’s Charming Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a portrait photographer. I specialize in Maternity/ Children Portraits. I feel like I am mostly proud of in my company is my lighting. It is something I work very hard on and gave it so much dedication and it’s nice to see that pay off result.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the biggest change to come will be film photography. It really is making it’s come back, I myself already developed two rolls of film this week. So excited to see how my fellow colleagues use their film.
