Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Louisville.
Carl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After 20 plus years in the luxury retail sector lastly as the Director of Prada Epicenter on Rodeo Drive, I opened Gueirlla Atelier in the burgeoning Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles to rave reviews and nearly ten years of offering a luxury retail experience to the downtown community.
Our most recent iteration of the concept is Carl’s Atelier at Westfield Century City. And Just celebrated the opening of our second location at Village Topanga Westfield. Westfield is proving to be the best supporter of project to date…..
Congrats on the new Westfield locations! It’s great to see the progress. What were the challenges you’ve had to overcome along the way?
Construction in the arts district and downtown just got impossible to manage, so we closed shop just over a year ago. We were invited to open in Century City a few months ago, and we are celebrating in the rave reviews we are receiving for the local business and residential communities. I am back in my old stomping ground of Beverly Hills, so it’s hard to hold on to the challenges. Onward and Upward!
Staffing a retail gallery is not easy. We have so many categories and you really have to be an expert of all of them. I think after going through a few people, I have managed to find a great team to help me build the brand and the company.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Carl’s Atelier – what else should we know?
I fancy myself a “beauty enthusiast”. We are a retail gallery, we are not a retail store….. Everything in our space art. The scents, the home decor item, the book, the fashion, and the actual art. We are a platform for creative and designer from around the world to share their beautiful creation. Nothing is in our space for the pure purpose of commerce, all of our product across every category are chosen to be in your life forever!!!!!!
We just open a two night art retrospective for Cool Art New Your creator Vianey!!!!! We did once night for out Grand Opening of the Topanga Space, and we did a second night at out Century City Location. We also just launch UnknownUnion from Cape Town South Africa to rave reviews!!!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is the smile on a clients face when they are happy to have spent time in the space whether they buy something or not. The only thing that define success more is when they bring a friend to experience our space……We are as much a social space as we are a place for commerce.
Success to me is the opportunity to use my platform to work with these extraordinary creative people from all over the world, like my Bespoke Boot maker from Australia Atelier Staphani, or Unknown Union from Caption, or Luca Grassia from Naples who does out bespoke program…..Success to using this amazing platform to broaden the cultural conversation around luxury!!!!!
