Today we’d like to introduce you to Carey Adela.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I believe that everything in life prepares us for our purpose and as far back as I can remember, I have been doing this work. My journey began at the age of nine when I lost my grandfather to suicide. It was my first experience with mental health. As a child, I spoke up against bullying. As a teenager, I was an advocate for girls and equality. And then after a terrible breakup in 2012, I started battling my own depression. I gained a significant amount of weight in six months. One Wednesday in 2013, I decided I could no longer continue on that path and was determined to take control of my health; both mental and physical. As a form of accountability, I began sharing my journey on Instagram. Gradually I began gaining followers, or my community, my tribe as I like to call them. Through my transparency and my authenticity, my community has grown to almost 20K. I now call this tribe The Healthy Vibe Tribe.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish I could say it’s been a smooth road. But like everything in life, there are always struggles. There are always obstacles and for me, I have been my own obstacle. There have been many moments where I wanted to quit, throw in the towel. I have taken breaks to refocus and remind myself of my purpose. I think one of the biggest struggles has been fear –the fear of the unknown, the fear of “what if?” What if I fail? “What if I succeed?” I think as a collective, we always talk about being scared of failure but I think for me, I’ve been scared to win is scary. It is not something I have been used to in life.
Please tell us about The Healthy Vibe Tribe.
I am a Health Educator, Life Coach, Self-love Advocate, Wellnessprenuer and Host of the ‘A Dose of Adela’ Podcast. I inspire and motivate women to step into their purpose by sharing my truth. The Healthy Vibe Tribe was curated to connect Black women and WOC, to help them find their tribe/community, to help them heal and flourish. I’ve done this by simply doing these things in my real life and being transparent about it on social media.
I am most known for my genuine spirit, good energy, making everyone feel seen and heard. I am also known for the pretty awesome events that I curate. My events are all targeted towards empowering women which range from healing workshops, vision board parties and wellness retreats.
I am most proud of The Healthy Vibe Tribe’s impact on each individual that has joined the tribe. From their own healing work to inspiring them to start their own business. Members have expressed that THVT has normalized the healing journey and allowed them to begin therapy, which has much stigma in the Black women and WOC community. And for me, that is a huge impact and huge.
What sets my business apart from others? Me! I set my business apart from others with my passion, my compassion and genuine intentions. People are drawn to the business because of who I am.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not believe in luck. I believe in God and hard work. My motto is heal, hustle and repeat. That is how I continue to grow and flourish in my personal life and business.
