Meet Candice Ferrell of Rose’s for Roselyn in Aliso Viejo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Ferrell.

Candice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m the founder and jewelry designer behind roses for roselyn. I began making jewelry a few years ago when I saw a need for fashionable jewelry for women who love nature, holistic healing, and are juggling careers, families, and everything else that life throws at them.

I am a nature girl at heart. I have a passion for the outdoors and mother nature’s beauty… but I’m also a girly girl who loves fashion. You look at my everyday attire, and would never think, “this girl can tent it, hike it, and get down and dirty fishing!” But I do!

I knew that being at home with my almost 3-year-old (and another on the way) was more important than my previously stressful careers in insurance or as an event planner, so I created a business that incorporated my passions from all worlds — fashion, holistic healing, and nature — because I knew that there are other women out there who are just like me. And so I began creating jewelry that brings together my love for jewelry, holistic healing, and essential oils. And then I shared it all with you! This is how Roses for Roselyn came to be, and I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to create healing jewelry for the modern day warrior women. Because you can have it all — a career and a family. Fashion and nature. Success and health.

Where did the name “roses for roselyn” come from? Well, this is a very personal story for me. My middle name is Roselyn. My belated Oma’s name was Rose. I never had the honor of meeting her because she passed away before I was born. But the stories I have heard growing up, I just know she and I would have been best friends. She would have been someone I would have turned to and leaned on growing up in this chaotic world. The thought of her and the stories of her bring me peace and make me smile. When I was thinking up of a name for my business, for whatever reason, she popped in my head and my heart just knew this is what is meant to be. My mother always told me as a little girl and even to this day, “to never forget to stop and smell the roses”. I take that as my daily mantra in life and I think so far it has helped me along my journies in life. I see my jewelry and I can see my Oma wearing a piece from my collection and it just fills my heart with joy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Is life ever a smooth road?! (haha) My husband and I embarked on a journey of fertility challenges about seven years ago. I had done a multitude of treatments, medical and holistic and stumbled across healing stones. Several stones of which focused on fertility. I kept them with me everyday, all day long, and everywhere. I believe the stone’s properties and energies really helped me navigate the rollercoaster ride of emotions that eventually led me to our son! The challenges of staying calm in my life were important for starting our family. The change of working for someone to working for myself and keeping everything organized was a challenge. Being able to contribute financially to my household was important while at the same time, I wanted to be the best mom I could be.

The challenge of being a working self-employed woman AND a full-time mom was a struggle. With our second baby on the way, it still remains a challenge that I am adapting too and altering as I go. It’s always a constant work in progress for me. I’m not perfect. And although I strive for perfection in every aspect of MY life, I know that I am also a “real” woman that can accept the challenges of being a female, small business owner, wife and mom. Those are my full-time job titles and I love them all. Without the support of my husband and of course family, friends and customers, I wouldn’t be to continue along this journey with rose’s for roselyn.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rose’s for Roselyn story. Tell us more about the business.
I work from home. With my toddler making noise in the background during the day or down in my workspace in my garage at night. Making these pieces and creating the designs are a very cathartic experience for me from beginning to end. While I’m focused on making one of a kind handmade pieces, my main focus is to make pieces that attract women just like me. A stay at home mom, self-employed strong warrior woman. Because my pieces are handmade, each one will always have a slight variance. I work alot with raw quartz and lava stones and not one piece is ever alike. They all have a flaw of some kind which I see as it’s own beauty mark. That’s what sets my pieces apart from others.

We are all flawed in one way or another from the journies we have been on. But that is what makes us the warriors we are and that is what makes my pieces so special! I take pride in that fact that, while there are other lines of aromatic jewelry or healing stone jewelry, I make your piece looking forward to you wearing it in hopes that it makes you all that more of a stronger woman. Or perhaps it will inspire you just a little more. I love knowing that if you own one of my pieces, that you will know a little about my personal journey and struggles and how I came to be inspired to create your piece! Overall, my customers inspire me!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck. I believe that we all make choices that get us to where we are in life. I believe in karma. You know, “what goes around, comes around”. If you put positive energy out into the universe, that in some way, the universe will reciprocate. If you’re open to change, then goodness is there waiting for you. I used to be the “half glass empty” type of gal. But, realizing that we have the ability to take control of our own thoughts, feelings, and decisions, made me think differently about life, my family, and my business! Starting your own business in today’s market is by no means a walk in the park. But I love the fact that I made the decision to do so!
