Meet Candace Rae Oestreich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Rae Oestreich.

Candace Rae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in California, I developed a love for art as far back as I can remember. Beyond that, I developed a passion to share this same love. I was probably about six years old when I gathered my neighborhood friends, a few art supplies and used my parent’s garage to hold my first art class. I think I even gave out “A’s” that day 😉

I attended Biola University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art, and now live and work as a full-time painter and Art Educator in a small town just outside San Luis Obispo.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You know the phrase “The Struggle Is Real?” … It’s truth.

I look back on my early 20’s and 30’s and see a ‘restless’ woman. For many years I was a single mom balancing trying to be the absolute best mom, the best employee, and struggling greatly with not fully being who I was designed to be.

I couldn’t just drop a full-time Graphic Design Position that provided full benefits and the security of knowing that tomorrow I’d have a paycheck, and start selling my paintings full time. Or could I? I looked at every angle. I looked at my child who needed eyeglasses – was the market ready for another Painter? Or was I ready to approach the market as a Painter? Years later, One step in front of the next, with a huge support network and a partner who said it’s time to fly, I went Full time becoming who I was meant to be.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Being a creative artist, either for commissioned or contracted work is the experience creatives dream of. I specialize is in Acrylic’s and Mixed media. Known for my ‘gold dusted horizons’ in which I lay a piece of 24k gold foil into the painting, I love hearing what the speck of light means to the buyer. Outside my personal collections, it’s working with people to help them realize their vision for their space, brand or wine label!

Beyond my studio, my apron is worn in various art classes throughout our county. From six-year-old kids to adult “paint and sip” parties, I’m able to to meet people where they are at. If it’s getting a young child to become excited about mixing paint or an adult realizing that she can paint out of a box, I’m able to navigate the various levels of my students.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Growth. I plan on taking my Art on the road and hopeful for new opportunities.

Pricing:

  • Original Art begins at $50! A great way to start any collection.
  • Art classes vary but most begin at $25.
