Meet Calvin Brownlee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvin Brownlee.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am 36 years old, originally from St. Louis, Missouri and I moved here to Los Angeles in 2003. I have an identical twin brother and we have a singing group known as “The XCEDERA TWINS”. We have been performing most of our lives and have had the pleasure to work with many celebrities and other artists in the industry.

Currently, I am using my voice along with my platform to support humanitarian, racial & political justice. I started a brand new initiative called “Grab em by THE VOTE”. My goal is to help encourage everyone to vote this cycle in 2020.

I do this partly through an online town hall talk show that I cultivated called “WE CAN’T BREATHE” in which I interview my peers and young political leaders who are currently seeking office this year to help aide my voter enthusiasm efforts.

I also organize letter-writing parties through an organization called VOTE FORWARD as well so I have my hands pretty full.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes, it has not always been easy. In music, you usually hear many “NO’s” before you get to one “YES”. One area that we find difficult is when it comes to performing opportunities. A lot of promoters are in it for the money with many ‘pay to play’ events.

As far as my other struggles, I find that it’s difficult to speak about politics in some circles. Some people are just tuned out or turned off altogether. I try to find something entertaining about it to keep people engaged.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As I stated, I am a singer and dancer. I have worked with many celebrities from Missy Elliott to Sisqo, TLC and many others so I am proud of those accomplishments.

Politically, I do have ambitions to run for office someday. However, I am still finding my way in that lane. For me, the most important thing is the 2020 Election and staying engaging and inspiring others to do the same.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think strong leadership and the will and determination is what is will take to succeed. I also think great follow-through skills will take me where I need to go. I am fired up in anything that I set my mind to do, just ask anyone who knows me.
