Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Wheeler.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My story begins back when I was born with dislocated hips as a baby and as I grew older, I was told I would have trouble with very physical activity such as dancing due to my hips. Because of this, my mum put me in Ballet at age five in the hopes of strengthening my hips, and well I never looked back. I went to a very prestigious performing arts college in Australia called WAAPA (as I am an Australian..Aussie Aussie Aussie) and after graduating, I started working as a Professional Dancer in Australia. In 2008, I completed a contract as a dancer on Royal Caribbean cruise lines and by 2010 I was living in LA hungry to chase my passion of being a Professional dancer in Hollywood. Coming from a small town in Melbourne, Australia the dream of making it in “Hollywood” as a dancer, was a very ambitious one, but one I was willing to chase…

Since 2010, I have been so blessed to travel the world and work as a dancer in countries such as Australia, USA, Europe, Barcelona, UK, Africa, and India. Some of my favorite jobs include working for Artists/Brands such as; Fifth Harmony, Paulina Rubio, Tiana, Michelle Obama, Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Nickelodeon, Stila, So You Think You Can Dance, Dance Moms, and The Grammys. Throughout this amazing journey my love and passion for Choreography and Creative Directing developed and I have been blessed to work on projects such as; Ringling Bros “Circus Xtreme”, India’s “Rawstar”, SYTYCD, In & Out, Snap Chat, Nickelodeon Kids Sports Awards, Reebok Global Summit shows, Nike “Let’s Move” Project, Nike Mercurial Reveal, and Nike Summer Olympics. More recently, I worked as a choreographer on the hit show on the Fox network “The Masked Singer”, and was recently appointed the Assistant Director for the newest Cirque Du Soleil show premiering late 2019 in Las Vegas.

I am also very heavily into Fitness which I discovered in 2012 when I competed in my first Bodybuilding show. I since then have competed three shows and was Nationally qualified. I am a certified personal trainer and Crossfit L1 trainer and have also studied Sports Nutrition. I have worked for brands such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Beachbody and Gymra, and currently coach at an amazing fitness studio called The Phoenix Effect in Hollywood.

All of these amazing achievements have definitely come with a sacrifice… Living so far away from my family is not easy, as anyone who has moved to LA would know, and in August of 2018, I herniated my L5 disc which led to needing surgery. As a working Choreographer and Fitness Coach this injury put a lot of things into perspective for me, but in turn, left me with an even bigger heart of gratitude and thankfulness that I get to wake up every day and chase my passion…I refused the surgery and spent the next five months rehabbing my injury, and are now Dancing, Creating and feeling Stronger than ever, Physically, Mentally & Spiritually.

Being an artist and living in LA takes a lot of Resilience, Strength, Passion, Faith, and Heart. You have to be willing to wake up everyday with a heart so full of Love, Gratitude, and Fire ready to go after your goals and dreams…

My biggest message would be to have Faith and go after what your heart desires, God has got you!! We are given our talents as a source to our higher purpose. We are all put on this earth for a specific purpose and each of us has something that someone in this world needs. So follow your passion, take risks, live without fear, and always be driven by love. And know the only limitations you have are the ones you create in your own mind and believe as true!

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to meet new people. Even though this city appears to be heavily focused on success, we are all just people at the end of the day with the same commonality; Chasing our goals. Find activities you like to do that aren’t related to your career, get out and explore LA, and allow yourself moments of downtime and stillness to recharge without feeling guilty or like you should be doing something!!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
