Meet Caela Bulzing of Caela Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caela Bulzing.

Hi Caela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My life as an esthetician started ten years ago when I made the bold move to leave business school at the University of Arizona and pursue my education in Esthetics. I nannied for a woman who was an esthetician and her drive and career inspired and motivated me to get into the industry. It was the answer to all my questions! I had been playing with makeup and beauty products since I could walk, and now I could play with them for a living. Within five months I was licensed in the state of Arizona and working at my first salon. Although I was building my clientele and excited to have landed a job straight out of the gate, I wanted to experience life in a bigger city. In 2013, I traveled to Chicago where my career actually took a complete turn. I landed a Corporate Trainer role at one of the most prestigious restaurant companies in the food capital of the country, and this role laid the groundwork for me for running my own business down the road. I worked day in and day out for five years only to realize I had lost sight of my main passion: being an Esthetician.

I also felt the internal push again that something bigger was in store for me, so I packed my bags and moved to New York City. As a young girl, I had always wanted to live there. The rush, the energy, the feeling…being there was a dream come true. After two years of establishing a manager and lash artist role with an amazing clientele at a luxury lash boutique the unthinkable happened: a stay-at-home order, a worldwide pandemic. Life was swept away from all of us and I was left alone in my studio apartment contemplating what was next. I traveled back to the West Coast and landed in California. As soon as the stay-at-home order began being lifted, I entered my way through the medical spa world. My passion is skincare and this brought me closer to that! I learned so much within the medical spa environment experience and also became responsible for other roles including social media content, inventory, and managerial tasks. This gave me the confidence and true belief that I could absolutely do this on my own.

Equipped with the last 7 years of experience in the worlds of beauty, lashes, skincare and business, I finally opened my own business. I knew the time was here and I was ready to fly. The other huge life obstacle and transformation that helped me open my own business was my decision to get sober. I had been fighting it for years, but during the pandemic, I finally gave sobriety a try. My sobriety gave me a second chance at life; it gave me passion and confidence and the belief in myself that I could actually do this! Within two months of deciding, I was ready to launch my own business I had my website created, products and machines purchased, and had opened my beauty studio Caela Esthetics.

Caela Esthetics has had a growing clientele since day one. I hit the ground running from the start, working six to seven days a week, never saying no to a client. Caela Esthetics has grown into a six figure business in less than one year and I am very optimistic to see what this next year will bring. But the most incredibly motivating and gratifying component of it all is my clients. I truly am so excited to go to work every day. My clients are so supportive, kind, and genuine. I absolutely love being able to do what I love and see their faces when they leave and how happy they are. I will always speak open and honestly about my sobriety and mental health challenges because they got me to where I am today. I am so excited to see how my business continues to grow and can’t wait to see what the future holds for myself and Caela Esthetics.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am so grateful for my life right now but it hasn’t always been smooth. Personally, I grew up in a household with an abusive father. We ran away when I was eight years old and our family struggled a lot. But I was always so inspired by how hard my mom worked as a single parent. I always strived for so much from a very early age. I also struggled with my own insecurities and depression. I work so hard every day to live a very happy life and deal with life on life’s terms. I count my blessings every day and it sets such a strong intention daily and creates a really optimistic outlook.

On the business side, Caela Esthetics has taught me so many lessons and brought me turns and dead ends along the way. I have learned to do a lot of research before investing in a product or machine – I have definitely made some wrong decisions that resulted in losses, but I’m glad those happened early on so I won’t make those same mistakes again. My personal life is also sometimes nonexistent, but I’m practicing moderation and attempting to balance both my personal life and business life. I can be a workaholic and that will only drive me to exhaustion, so I really always have to look at the big picture and make sure I’m striving to give my clients the best, which means taking time for myself as well.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Caela Esthetics brings all my passions together: skincare, lashes and beauty! What sets me apart is that you can come to my studio and get everything done in one place which is super appealing to people, especially living in a busy city with lots of traffic! Facials and Lash Lifts are two of my most popular treatments and clients absolutely love the Dermaplaning Hydrafacial combination. My menu is unique because everything is customizable to the person. I personally have never liked going somewhere and having to pay for a ton of add-ons, so I try to make the menu super easy and price friendly for everyone. My main goal is that people feel good when they leave. This is not just a room where you get a service and leave: it’s an experience! From the music to the smells of the products, and my unique facial massages, I love making all of my clients feel amazing from the inside out!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was playing beauty salon with my mom. We would play with skincare products, makeup and nail colors, I loved all things beauty very early on.
