Meet Byron Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Byron Lopez.

Byron, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was always interested in cameras and how people were able to tell stories in a single photo. To my knowledge, the first camera I actually remember messing with was one of my parents Nikon Coolpix. Ever since then I’ve had tunnel vision and made it my sole passion to make it in this career. I just started doing it and didn’t think twice about it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! but is that not what makes it fun? It makes me realize I want this more. My struggles are more on the mental and financial side(This photography stuff ain’t cheap baby!), it’s a little funny to me and I can’t pinpoint what exactly it is, but mostly the driving force. It’s more me trying to hype myself up to share the photos I take. It makes no sense to me either but we out here struggling, with good energy, pushing to share the art I care about.

Alright – Tell us about your work. What should we know?
I’m a photographer from Los Angeles, born and raised, and I want to take stunning photos. I specify in street/fashion photography but am open to other styles. If I’m proud of anything it’s working on fun projects with great people so far and wanting that to continue into the future; Also working to perfect my style of photography, which is basically just showing people how I see life daily life and how I form those pictures in my head first to recreate it later in my photography. If I could think of one thing that sets me apart is I don’t care about me, my photography will always be more important. I want my photography and art to be more famous than the artist(me) itself, if possible.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I would really like to give credit to this strange journey I’m on and everyone who has come and gone in my life for making me more successful in every way possible; from a better person to a better photographer, I’m grateful. However, I’m most grateful to my sister who is an amazing artist and has inspired me since a kid to improve my art in ways I never imagined, to Cris from Pistols n Palmtrees for giving me a chance to begin in the style I always wanted to capture, Hollywood Redux for allowing me to explore different avenues of photography and push my eye to see and capture new shots. Lastly, NES Events for allowing me to begin in food photography, a medium I never thought would be so difficult and fun, but also connecting me to amazing people I hold dear now.
