Meet Burbank Brand Developer & Photographer: Shawn Artero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Artero.

Shawn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Began as artist management right out of high school which then turned into me buying a camera to create our content. As time went by I got really familiar with my camera and began shooting for many artist, producers and songwriters in the industry. I also began shooting in the boxing community where I started my own Boxing brand HUMBLE HANDS BOXING.

Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles were not having any photography mentors to teach me in the beginning. I spent my first two years really struggling in understanding to shoot in Manual mode. Luckily we live in a time with YouTube tutorials.

Not being able to afford school I had to learn on my own and also buy my own gear. I just made the decision that if I wanted to get in the music industry the camera would be my fastest route and I decided to take a loan out and buy my 5D Markiii. I worked so long just to be able to finish paying it but it’s been the best decision and investment for myself. Now I’m able to just be a full time photographer with a comfortable living.

Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I would say zero. My career is a result from my work ethic. I’ve always done more than needed, created meaning relationships, and have just put myself in positions where the right people could find me and appreciate my work.

Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
The ability to develop relationships. I would say 90% of my clients come from word of mouth and I’ve always made that priority. I do have some acquaintances but more than not I make sure to develop relationships with my clients to not only feel happy with the quality they’re receiving but also because of who they are receiving it from.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that the culture in LA is so mixed and constantly changing. There is all type of talented people hustling to make it.

There really isn’t anything I don’t like about the city. Even all the bad things that happen here have a story with it’s own purpose that I can appreciate.
