Meet Buddy Batterson, Timothy Whyte and Adrian Mejia of Versus Verses in Inland Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Buddy Batterson, Timothy Whyte and Adrian Mejia.

The band started as a brainchild of Buddy Batterson (Vocalist), and Timothy Whyte (Guitarist and Backup Vocalist), two childhood best friends. The two had always talked about starting a band together but never actually wrote any music together. Tim wrote music on his own, while Buddy focused on his other passions in writing and acting. However, after winning a karaoke competition and getting an opportunity to record an EP for free, Buddy came to Tim and asked him to finally join with him to form a band. We eventually came to add Hunter Stone (Bassist) and Adrian Mejia (Percussion).

Has it been a smooth road?
No, we have struggled with a lot of line-up changes for various reasons. Lack of commitment, creative differences, lack of talent, clashing of personalities. Every time we have felt like we had a solid line-up and we’re ready to start writing new music, we lose a member of the team and have to teach all of our old music to new members, luckily we’ve finally gotten a group of laid back, fun and talented hard-working members.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
We feel like we strive to be a unique voice amongst our peers in the local scene. We always try to innovate with new music, when we write a new song, we try to take influences from across multiple subgenres of rock within the genre. This can be attributed to all of the members having different individual influences while still having the same point of crossover. For the most part, we write progressive, alt. rock. But the influences span from, Coldplay, to Deftones, to Dance Gavin Dance, to The Black Dahlia Murder.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is the hub of the music scene. We love performing in LA when we do. Many of the bands have different sounds and we love being out there and hearing all of the different music LA has to offer. The best part of playing music there is a scene for everyone, and everyone is for the scene. We love all of it and strive to pull in crowds from multiple different scenes.
