Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryana Kappa, LMFT, IFECMHS.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
South Bay Mommy and Me is the fruit of a seed that was planted nearly eight years ago when I entered into my first experience providing therapy for children and families five and under. I did the majority of my training in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health with Children’s Institute in Torrance, which ultimately culminated in my endorsement as an Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist.
I have always had a special interest in the health and warmth of the mother-child relationship, and nurturing this relationship has been my top priority for my entire professional career thus far. As my journey continued, I found myself stumbling into the Curriculum Director position of the Mother Nurture Network in Redondo Beach. After 2.5 years of serving in that position, I knew it was time to expand both my infant and toddler programs, which led to the birth of South Bay Mommy and Me.
South Bay Mommy and Me is my center that is devoted to building strong child-parent relationships, building a mother’s confidence in her parenting skills, and most importantly, connecting mothers to one another on a deep and profound level. It takes a village to raise a child, and we are building that village together.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with the start of any new business, there are always hurdles and challenges that we can’t anticipate. The biggest struggle is gaining exposure and building trust in our community. Patience and faith are critical to allowing this process to naturally unfold how it will, and I have both of those things.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the South Bay Mommy and Me story. Tell us more about the business.
South Bay Mommy and Me is dedicated to providing guidance and insight to the mothers of infants and young children in a warm, nurturing, and supportive atmosphere.
Founded in 2018 in Redondo Beach, California by state endorsed Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist Bryana Kappa, South Bay Mommy and Me offers a mindful and respectful approach to parenting that combines joy and loving but firm limits in the mother-child relationship. Mothers accomplish an enhanced sense of attunement and responsiveness to her child’s unique developmental needs.
South Bay Mommy and Me is a safe haven, a place for any mama to build her mama tribe. Mothers and babies meet weekly for 75 minute long classes, where we sigh with relief knowing that we are not alone in the challenges and joys of parenthood. We discuss our ups and downs in a friendly group setting facilitated by experienced and knowledgable professionals, who offer useful support in managing the highs and lows of raising children.
Topics are expertly timed according to your child’s developmental stage, which helps build an appreciation for both your child’s development and your own growth as a mother. Of course, age-appropriate developmental activities are provided in each class, allowing your child to explore tummy time, rolling, crawling, cruising, walking, social engagements, and so much more.
South Bay Mommy and Me is known for not only educating and supporting mothers alongside their parenting journeys; but also for fostering the development of strong friendships and bonds for both mothers and their children, resulting in a true motherhood community that lasts a lifetime.
Our Mommy and Me program is a curriculum-driven series that is highly researched, educational in nature, and facilitated by psychotherapists. Each class is balanced to include both the interactive experience with your baby, as well as the important opportunity to deeply connect and engage with other moms going through the exact same thing as you.
You will learn the most up-to-date recommendations regarding infant development, child development, and maternal mental health. No other Mommy and Me program can match our expertise. Our program is the only one in the South Bay designed by a CA Center for IMH/ECMH endorsed Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am very fortunate to have always been a glass half full type of gal. Even when my life circumstances have been dire, mentally taxing, and exacerbated by grief and loss, I’ve kept on singing, which gets me through most days. I believe so strongly that singing is the highest form of prayer, and if we all just sang a little more, we’d feel happier and be more grounded
Even in times of financial poverty, I have always had a full spirit, a strong motivational drive, and a grittiness about me. I pounded the pavement in New York City, many days with nothing more than $5 in my pocket. I consider all of my life experiences as integral for who I am today, and absolutely critical for the professional role I play.
I thank God for giving me challenges and struggles, as they have allowed me to become more resilient, empathetic, compassionate, and ultimately, more loving.
