Meet Bryan Gillott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Gillott.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Art has always been apart of my life! Growing up I would try anything new and give it my all. Once I got bored of whatever that was, back to drawing I would go. Drawing has always been a constant in my life. I could pick back up where I left off and enjoy every second of it! I would spend extra time on school projects that required my creativity and look forward to working on whatever it was. All of my other school work would have drawings in the corner or on the back.

Please tell us about your art.
I enjoy doing traditional tattoos. Anything with bold lines, solid black, and color. These days I prefer more black and grey than color. But that can change at any time. I’m always changing things a little to keep things fun for myself. But I don’t limit myself to just traditional. I work in a shop that has a huge variety of clients that walk in. I’ll do the little simple tattoos all day long then do something more custom the next day. I just like tattooing in general. Painting, as well, is something I love to do. I’ve often said I’d be completely happy just painting for the rest of my life.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
My wife’s taken care of, the bills get paid and I get to enjoy my life. That’s the success to me. To be an artist and succeed, in my opinion, you have to want this life. It’s not easy at all. I’ve had slow days and cancellations that result in $0 days. But that’s when I get my painting in or drawings for future tattoos. The most important thing is to not let those slow times get to me. I’ve been doing this long enough to know that the next day could be super busy and I’ll make up for the slow days. The more you want it the harder you’ll work to get it.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Everyone can see my work on Instagram! @bryangillott2tattoos You can also get tattooed by me and stare at it every day! Haha, People can support me, and other artists, by getting tattooed. Buy some paintings, prints or anything else that an artist has put time into.
