Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruno Justi.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been passionate about music and impressed with the size of the music community in Los Angeles. And that’s why I moved out here from Brazil in 2011 and started pursuing a path in music after years working in a corporate environment.
Since then, I had the honor to accompany artists as a sideman guitarist on tours in Japan, Brazil, Mexico, and the USA. I have also recorded with and performed with several world-class musicians and producers, produced independent artists, directed some fun music videos and became a voting member for the Latin Grammys. From all these experiences, many music-related projects came to life. BEE MY EARS is a very special one!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The way I see it is that life is in constant contraction and expansion – subject to another interview =) So struggles are natural and part of it. They are not negative and in fact, they push us to evolve!
When we look at the music industry, even with all the changes that have occurred in the past ten years, we still see a funnel controlled by a handful of people arbitrarily curating artists. With streaming and the introduction of self-management tools, a new wave of independent artists who once had no space in the industry is emerging and growing really fast.
Achilles Tendon: Although this group of artists grow three times faster than the whole industry and have access to numerous tools, they do not have enough traction; artist development; online and offline reach to penetrate and endure in the market. Therefore, approximately 90% of the artist community will remain undiscovered and will never have a chance to create sustainable careers.
So by observing these struggles, we came up with a very simple solution, which will be answered in your next question.
Please tell us about Bee My Ears.
Bee My Ears is a non-arbitrary platform that empowers independent artists through crowdsourced feedback, community, artist development, and talent distribution. Through the platform, any artist can be heard and anyone can contribute to the artist development process.
Listeners and renown industry professionals – very important figures who are responsible for an artist’s success – get rewarded to actively contribute with artists by giving feedback about their creative content. With the data collected during the crowdsourced feedback process, reports highlighting the commercial potential of songs are generated and matched with opportunities. Data also helps with trends anticipation, more effective global reach, assertive distribution and more.
At Bee My Ears, artists also have access to exclusive events, masterclasses and very soon: music business content in an online training format generated by our renown industry professionals – we call them Premium Listeners.
We recently launched the project in Brazil and just started promoting in the USA. We’re proud to say that we already have approximately 600 users, 2000 evaluations concluded by the listeners and a few industry honors:
⁃ Innovation Awards LATAM Semi-Finalist (Latin America)
⁃ Alpha Startup at Collision (Toronto, Canada)
⁃ #1 Investors Choice & People’s Choice at SIM (São Paulo, Brazil)
⁃ #1 Investors Choice at HackTown Pitch Sessions (São Paulo, Brazil)
A few incredible artists who are part of the platform: Gabi Mello, Iago Weslley, Daniela Firme, Soul Rising, Little Brazil Trio, Mona Najib, Nanda Mazza, Masumi, Kaleidoskope and many more.
A few Premium Listeners who are part of Bee My Ears: Grecco Buratto (Shakira, Earth Wind & Fire, Pink), Geoff Mayfield (Consultant, Journalist, Universal Music, Billboard), Erin Workman (Disney, Selena Gomez, Los Angeles College of Music), Andrew Murdock (The Hobby Shop, Godsmack, Alice Cooper), Marko Fazio (One New Spirit, Masumi) and many more.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is a very subjective topic =) You can call good luck when you do what you love and put all your heart in it. You can call back luck when you know what your purpose is and yet you choose something else because you are afraid of failing or because you care too much about what other people will think.
