Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Madison.
Brooklyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been a girly girl since a child. I was always into beauty and fashion. I started sewing with my grandma at a young age. Making anything from matching outfits for me and my dolls, to quilts. Grandma and I would also make soap from scratch. After high school, I attended Paul Mitchell the School East Bay. I passed my state board test my first try and became a licensed cosmetologist at the age of 19.
I always knew I wanted to run my own business but didn’t know when the time would be right. For my 25TH birthday, November 2019, I decided to open up shop. I opened an online boutique with unique trendy fashion items to handmade all-natural nontoxic beauty products and lashes. It’s a one-stop online glam shop. Our grand opening is February 2020. I can’t wait to work with my community and meet new faces along the way on my adventure.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am only just opening. So far everything has gone well. I’ve had to make some sacrifices to be able to fund my new business but I just keep telling myself that it will all pay off in the end. I know it will! I have had many sleepless nights up because I was up working on the business. When you open a business it becomes your main focus, your baby. Going out and partying is no longer fun when you’re so motivated to see your business succeed. Being a business owner gives you a whole new perspective on life. It gives you power!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an online boutique with trendy fashion items. We carry lots of cute clothing, lingerie, shoes, accessories. We also have our beauty line dropping February 2020. Blacked Couture beauty is a natural nontoxic beauty line. I am so happy to share my home recipes for you to try! Quality ingredients and amazing scents. Once you see our luxury soap bars, you’ll see what makes us special.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory would probably be my grandparent’s house. They retired by the time I started school. With two working parents, I practically lived with my grandparents. From swimming in the pool, gardening, baking, sewing, making soap to makeup and photoshoots. I always was comfortable and had a great time with my “Nana” and “Papa”.
