Meet Brooke Kallon of Moon Spirit Herbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Kallon.

Hi Brooke, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Gemini sun, Capricorn moon, and Libra rising. Which means I’m super heady and can get caught up in work easily, hahaha. I initially thought plant medicine found me in my thirties as a way to cope with anxiety and my high-stress advertising job, however once I began the journey of plant discovery and started healing, the memories came back. Memories of my mother cooking with rosemary when I was a child and my Pocky introducing me to the peppermint growing in her garden. Pocky was an amazing woman who lived next door to my parents when I was little and became like a grandmother. I made up the name Pocky for her one day and then everyone I knew started calling her that (even though her real name was Margaret). She took care of me and showed me how to walk barefoot in the grass (being careful not to step on bees), she taught me to become friends with the flowers and talk to the trees. Being an herbalist was always in me, I just lost her for a while and had to come back into myself in order to find her again. It took me burning myself completely out at work to pause and see what I was doing to myself and know that I needed to make a change. I started by incorporating herbal teas and smoking blends into my self-care practice as a way to connect with my body + calm my nervous system during times of chronic stress & anxiety. I’m obsessed with learning and self-taught herbalism for years before diving into the Intermediate course at The Herbal Academy – International School of Herbal Arts & Sciences. After getting certified in 2019, I founded Moon Spirit Herbs and began sharing my organic herbal elixirs, infusions and smoking blends with the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting an herbal business can be tricky because of all the regulations. There have been some setbacks but that’s how I learned what to say and what not to say. I’m not a doctor, so I don’t treat or diagnose but I do recommend herbs based on what a customer is looking for. Everyone’s body constitution is so different, but there are certain herbs that can & do work for most. My biggest struggle was thinking I needed to have everything completely figured out before I put myself out there. And I actually wasted so much time doubting myself when I should have been trusting myself. It’s scary to take risks, but life without risk is basically just waiting to die.

As you know, we’re big fans of Moon Spirit Herbs. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Moon Spirit Herbs is a small-batch herbal company offering elixirs, teas, and smoking blends to help others live well. There’s no tobacco or cannabis in our products, just organic herbs. We love making custom blends for customers based on their specific needs and prefer it whenever we have the option. We also provide recipes + rituals for the herbal-curious to make their own powerful plant potions by the spirit of the moon. My favorite ritual is making a small batch of herbal medicine whenever there’s a new moon and straining + offering it back to the earth during the full moon. Just like plants, we are magically resilient and we have the ability to heal ourselves with the harmonious medicine of the Earth + Moon. When we live in greater alignment with nature, we are invited to drop into the lunar rhythm and seasonal flow to help us move through the world with greater ease.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Plants are always teaching me something new, showing me where I need growth and how to better care for myself & others. When I finally tuned out society and tuned into myself, I realized that I knew all along where I needed to be. Quitting my corporate job in 2019 and diving headfirst into my passion for plant medicine was the scariest thing I ever did, but totally worth it. I can’t wait to see where this herbal journey takes me next.
