Meet Brooke Burgstahler of Budding Mind in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Burgstahler.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Coming out of the cannabis closet has been a bit of a journey, but I am proud to say that I am a cannabis activist, advocate, and content creator AND a focused actress and producer.

I revel in all kinds of creative expression, and one consistent element to that enjoyment has always been cannabis. Whether writing, doing stand up, teaching yoga, diving deep into a character study, editing videos, etc.-weed is often a part of the experience. And I am so fortunate that cannabis is now an actual part of my career path!

As a cannabis reporter and host, I have worked with Merry Jane on cannabis news stories and a four-part docu-series Prisoners of Prohibition, about those serving life sentences for cannabis. I also work with Civilized on cannabis coverage and am the host of BigMike Straumietis’s upcoming show The Next Marijuana Millionaire.

My experience researching, writing, and creating for these various platforms inspired me to create my own cannabis content platform and brand, Budding Mind. I celebrate the plant, share stories about the cannabis community, and try to raise awareness about the industry’s blind spots.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an actress, I have been worried in the past that by owning my adoration and support of the cannabis plant I could damage potential opportunities to work with big networks. But at some point, I knew I had to be willing to be a voice for what I believe in– that cannabis is a deeply healing plant medicine and must be decriminalized.

Opportunities that are meant for me will be aligned with my belief system. My brand Budding Mind is still in its infancy, but I get nervous having a cannabis brand in the digi-sphere as many cannabis companies social media accounts are constantly being shut down for “illegal” content.

Please tell us about Budding Mind.
Budding Mind is the exploration of the cannabis industry through my lens and focuses primarily on health, wellness, spirituality, politics, and culture. I post original stories, blogs, poems, and videos on Instagram.

My site BuddingMind.life is launching in September of this year! And I will be introducing intimate cannabis-infused events soon so follow me on IG and join my mailing list.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
What’s coming to mind first is my 7th birthday party which was 70s Disco themed.

I’m not sure how I picked that theme because at the time me and most of my friends didn’t really know much about 70s style– but all of our parents dressed us up, and everyone looked amazing.

We had a dance party at my house, and I remember tearing it up, jumping up and down on our couches. It was way better than my previous birthday when Barney came to my house.
