Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Avishay.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brooke. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My journey in the event industry started in 2003 as a student intern in the athletic department at UCLA – go Bruins! As an intern in the marketing department, I worked closely with sponsors who were executing game time promotions.
From the beginning, I was addicted to the adrenaline that comes with producing live events. I followed that passion and, right after college, worked for the Dodgers in advertising and special events and learned even more about event production. At some point I realized weddings would be a great “next step” and, after cold-calling nearly every wedding planner in Los Angeles, I ended up scoring my first job in the wedding world.
After learned (a ton) more, I decided to start planning weddings on my own, and Orange Blossom was born! Each member of our team has played a huge role in the growth of Orange Blossom, specifically our lead designer, Christy Heng, and I’m eternally grateful to each of them. Our team is filled with passionate, friendly and unbelievably talented people who genuinely care about our clients and their weddings and special events
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I found the biggest struggle in growth and scaling the business through that growth. As our number of inquiries grew in the early years, I quickly learned that I wouldn’t be able to service everyone alone.
I had to train and hire people who were capable of representing the business as I would and also people who could eventually run events of their own under Orange Blossom.
The key to our continued success and growth can be directly credited to the amazing people on our team who make me incredibly proud on a daily basis. They’re all complete animals. 🙂
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Orange Blossom Special Events – what should we know?
We are a full-service event planning and design company. Not only do we plan all different types of events, but we also design them – from coming up with an overall design concept to creating custom stationery and paper goods, we can do it all. We are a solid group of smart, creative, dependable, caring, and cool individuals.
I like to think our calm and easy going demeanor is what really sets us apart. We are all truly solutions oriented and we’ve found this trait to be clutch when working with clients on planning the biggest event they’re likely to plan in their lives (with the exception of some outliers).
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Every single person who has ever worked on our team deserves credit here. I’ve learned something from each of them. I’ve also learned something from every single one of my clients. And I still continue to learn from them. That’s really one of the best things about what we do — each event is so unique, and we always have the opportunity to learn and grow from each experience.
I would love to specifically call out Christy Heng. Our lead designer who has been a part of the team from the day Orange Blossom was born. She was my assistant at my “day job” before I started planning weddings and she’s still with me today. She’s the true yin to my yang. She’s incredibly creative (like, she has more creativity in her pinkie than I do in my entire body), she’s thoughtful, she’s funny, she’s positive and so fun to have around.
I also want to shout out our lead planner Danielle Niemann. She really taught me how to trust others with the Orange Blossom brand which really led to a lot of growth within the company. She’s a leader and a teacher. She’s made Orange Blossom so special, and I can’t imagine it without her.
