Meet Brittnee Stewart of So Pretty Xo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittnee Stewart.

Brittnee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Let’s take it back to my younger adult years. I had an interest in nursing since I went to a medical high school. After my H.S. Graduation, I went to enroll in community college and to meet a counselor.

Even though Nursing was an interest of mine but Cosmetology/ beauty was my passion, and I was good at it. So as I sat waiting to be called, I went back and forth within myself about which road I’d choose. I knew I loved doing hair, but nursing would provide “stability.” So right as my name was called, I chose nursing. I graduated from nursing school at 19 years old and started working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 2007.

Shortly after entering the healthcare industry, I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be retiring there. It was something I felt inside. So I went on with my career. I wanted to continue my education to become a Registered Nurse. I took different classes off and on, but I would never finish them because I wasn’t really interested. Although nursing is a great and noble career, I wasn’t happy.

I always knew it was something else for me to pursue in business. I’ve tried almost everything from making candles, insurance agent, T-shirt line, floral arrangements, centerpiece design, nursing uniforms, lingerie, clothing boutique(s), etc. I was constantly looking for a business that I could build to quit my job. None of those were it but, I didn’t give up.

In the Summer of 2015, I came across Individual eyelash extensions. I cannot tell you how or what even made me look into this skill/service (I didn’t wear them myself or knew anyone else that did). I became more interested and continued to look at videos. I even ordered the supplies to practice with to see if this was something that I wanted to pursue.

The next month, I paid for my lash extensions training and was certified. I really loved doing lash extensions so a few months later I enrolled into beauty college for an Esthetician course (see how I still ended up I beauty). Six months later I graduated and was a licensed Esthetician. I decided to go all in and quit my nursing job.

In June 2016, I leased my very first location which was a private suite. No walk-in traffic so I have literally built this business and my clientele from the ground up.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth and seamless journey for me. Everything has fallen into place which I how I know I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to do. The only struggle is forgetting NOT solely to rely on social media. It’s very important to build genuine and personal relationships everywhere you go.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the So Pretty Xo story. Tell us more about the business.
So Pretty Xo is a beauty service and training brand. Lash extensions are our main service, but we also offer facials, microblading, eyebrow waxing, and V-Steam. I offer monthly Lash Extensions Training. I have recently added V-Steam service training, eBooks, and business building help.

I think what sets me apart is that I have a range of beneficial services from lash extensions to training to ebooks. I try to focus on what’s needed and what people want in the beauty industry and the business side.

Another thing that sets me apart and surprises people is my ten years of nursing experience and how I walked away from that career to bet on myself with my business. Needless to say, I’m very happy with that decision.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The beauty industry is always changing which is a great thing. So many services (good and bad) has come and went since I started.

I think the big shift is that the main services such as lash extensions, makeup, hair, Skincare, etc. will always be around.

These are a few of many staple services that people look forward to getting on a regular basis. It’s also important to adjust and evolve with the times and trends all while staying true to your craft and style.
