Meet Bridget Moore of Handsome Girl Designs in Eagle Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Moore.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I mainly focuses on digital illustrations revolving around intersectional feminism, body positivity and female empowerment.

My design path started as a therapeutic outlet for my own eating disorder, in which I secretly struggled on and off with for over 15 years. I started drawing as a way to celebrate the beauty of my own body and other womxn’s bodies. Celebrating all the different shapes, shades and experiences beauty can come in. Later, I moved on to adding in playful takes on sexual health, snacks, and positive affirmations. All things that have been fundamental elements in my personal recovery and ongoing journey to practice radical self-love and appreciation for all the diverse beauty in this world.

In furthering my celebrating of inclusion, I also wanted to create a design agency that was accessible to many. I know the design industry can be both intimidating and expensive, so I strive to offer accessible services to everyone. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, if you have a creative vision, I’m here to make it happen. Whether you need help adding flair to company branding, want to order a set of original graphic tees for you and your besties, or need to design a killer presentation that’ll land you that next promotion. There is no project too small or too big.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been one hell of a ride that’s for sure. My journey has been filled with highs and lows, some things have come together smoothly, others not so much.

I think my biggest challenge has been figuring out my worth and standing by it.

In an effort to offer accessible services there’s definitely been times where I’ve been fully taken advantage of, sometimes even screwed over and ghosted when time for payment comes around – so that’s been a true battle is finding a balance of sticking to what I’m worth, but also working with smaller budgets. There’s a lot of times when I’ll give my quotes and people are surprised that I charge which is a hit to me emotionally that there’s people who think my work isn’t worth payment.

Another hurdle I’ve dealt with is the amount of internet trolls I get – countless DM’s, emails, comments on some of my posts that try to dismantle my fight for body positivity, for the most part I can let it ride, but there’s been times where it takes a toll on me, again making me question my worth.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Handsome Girl Designs story. Tell us more about the business.
I mainly focuses on digital illustrations revolving around intersectional feminism, body positivity and female empowerment.

My specialty and what I might be better known for is my BABES series, which is a long-standing (and probably endless) series celebrating the beauty of womxn from all sorts of backgrounds, experiences, shapes and shades. It’s been an extremely rewarding series for me, connecting me to SO many stories and people. And my favorite part of it? Is when people finally see themselves in my work, someone who represents THEM -it’s always moving when someone resonates closely to my work. The art of inclusion should be prominent in our lives and I’m happy to be part of the movement in making our feeds more inclusive.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel I’ve been blessed with a lot of luck when it comes to exposure and crossing paths with people to help me grow and better myself and art.

But there’s been a backbreaking amount of hard work to assist that luck, but let’s be honest luck can only get you so far, it’s up to you and your drive how far you go with it.
