Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Nemiroff and Benjamin Hagerty.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We became a couple in 2009 and have always been passionate about travel, both locally and abroad. We were inspired to take a long-term trip in 2017 to explore more of Canada and the U.S. We soon realized that it wasn’t just a lengthy trip, but a new lifestyle choice and business in the making.
We began our trip in April 2017 by driving up from LA to Vancouver, across Canada all the way to Halifax, back into the U.S. down to D.C., and across the U.S. back to LA. In 2018, we drove eastward once again focusing on states in the Southwest and the Midwest.
We launched It’s Bree and Ben in July 2019 and aim to make our blog a place to guide people to kind choices in travel, dining, and shopping. We hope to encourage others a way of travel and life that does that exploit people, places, or animals.
We have 60-plus guides in the making from all of our travels and cannot wait to share them with our audience.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Bree: Two of the greatest challenges of our lifestyle was that we were constantly on the move and having to relearn our surroundings. While friends and family were enjoying relaxing weekends or Friday nights out, we were packing, loading our car, cleaning our rental space, and planning out where we would find vegan restaurants along our next road trip and where our groceries would be bought upon our arrival. It was a lot of work but worth it in the end, of course.
Ben: One of the greatest challenges that I encountered when creating this business was learning the new technologies and how to implement social media. There was so much about web design and social media strategy that I didn’t know. To this day, I’m still working on it as these tools are constantly evolving.
Please tell us about It’s Bree and Ben.
It’s Bree and Ben is an ethical travel blog that encourages others not to exploit people, places, or animals. What that means is that we teach our readers to think about their choices while traveling, from how they interact with nature on hikes and taking photos at popular Instagram spots to the places they eat and shop and how to travel on a plant-based diet.
We are most proud of the fact that we’ve traveled to more than 60 locations in the past several years and have been able to experience the growth of the vegan movement first-hand all across the country and continent.
What sets us apart is that we have yet to find another vegan couple that has thoroughly studied the growth of the vegan scene as much as we have. We know there are plenty of travel couples who have explored countries like Bali, Thailand, and Australia, but few vegans have really explored North America like we have.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We would have launched our blog on WordPress, not Wix. Otherwise, we’re happy with how we started and how we’re doing.
