Meet Brianna Rouzan of RadiantRou in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Rouzan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Things that’s usually happened in my life tend to happen so fast or at least always have a life lesson following it. I didn’t have a real direction as to where I wanted to go in my life to go. I was going out almost every night and didn’t have real goals for myself.

I had lost a few people in my life that I thought would be there forever and of course, at first, I was sad about it. Just no motivation to change anything. Then a day before my 25th birthday I was entering the operating room for emergency surgery where I received 3 metal plates and 9 screws holding my ankle together for the rest of my life. I had a freak accident with family and friends celebrating my birthday. I broke my ankle in three places and dislocated it.

Nobody believed me when I slipped. I said “I broke something” and they all said “no you didn’t” As soon as they came up to me on the floor from SLIPPING (something so simple I’ve done a million times) (socks on hardwood) they told me “don’t look at it.” Fast forward to after my surgery, the doctor told me I wouldn’t walk properly for two YEARS. I was SHOOK. Could I really break something THAT bad off of not having a cool story to tell as to HOW. It was insane. Because I was now in this situation, I realized this was a message, a WAKE-UP CALL. Bri, slow down. All the time you have now…. what are you doing with your life? What’s important? Are you happy? So I think I was super depressed that I couldn’t walk and was in all this pain for the first month and a half.

I decided I wanted to take a Lash extension class, to learn how to apply them. I was always asking my lash lady how she got started, so I took a class. LOVED IT. And I could practice in my cast and boot because you have to be sitting to do lashes. PERFECT! So I started practicing that and found out I needed a license. Okay boom, I’m going to go to Aveda Institute of Los Angeles and become a licensed Esthetician! Now in the middle of this career journey, my boyfriend was like “we are not waiting two years for you to walk properly. I was on crutches for an entire four and a half months. It was TERRIBLE. Felt like a lifetime, but he practiced walking with me almost every single day. I truly feel if he didn’t push me I would have just conceded to the two-year timeline.

Four and half months later I was walking WITHOUT my boot or crutches. Best feeling in the world. I had a strong limp and it was very painful but I was so excited to walk. I’m about eight weeks out to being finished with my esthetician schooling and DUN DUN DUNNNNN I get pregnant! LMAO again, another life lesson coming at me FAST, I mean I couldn’t even walk properly but I was actually so excited. But whewwwww my baby was kicking my ass. I was hospitalized three times in my first trimester. I was insanely sick. I was malnourished, couldn’t keep water down it was HARD. I couldn’t finish school. My morning sickness took over my life and I was really sad because I got to the five-week mark and I couldn’t finish.

Very sad about it but so excited to meet my baby girl!! Throughout my pregnancy, I still practiced doing lashes and facials and even waxing! I didn’t want to have any excuses anymore. I did these services until I was nine months pregnant to perfect my craft. I fell in love with it. I had my daughter in August & everything has meaning. It took a minute but I went back to school to finish my original goal and I couldn’t be happier with my Lash business!!!! I have a pretty solid client base who loves bragging about their lashes and it makes it all worth it. It’s an instant gratification service and that my favorite part. The moment you are untaping their faces and they have that first look in the mirror you know they either like it, hate it or LOVE it. I have been doing Lashes, (facials and waxes mildly) ever since!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an esthetician. Which provides services for, facials, waxing, sugaring, microdermabrasion facials, chemical peels, makeup application, and Lash Extensions. I specialize and am known for Lash extensions. I make customizable lash patterns that fit the client instead of a standard look (unless that’s what the client wants) and I feel that separates me from others. I make sure they feel different and special. I think what I’m most proud of are my clients and how happy they are! That shit makes me feel warm inside!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I live in LOS ANGELES. Everyone wants to be here. Me growing up here helped me see a vision because I know I’m LA anything is possible. I think this is the best place to have and start a dream. The only thing about LA with starting anything is being knowledgeable about you not being the only one. There are a million + people here so you’re going to have to work really hard and be determined because if you slack off somebody will take your spot in MINUTES. If you’re gonna do it in this city, you have to be motivated and serious.
