Meet Brianna Barraza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Barraza.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an LA-based yoga teacher. Growing up my father had a yoga studio in Marina Del Rey now known as the Yoga Nest. After my mothers passing at a young age, yoga came to be a place of healing. The practice of yoga has been life-changing, and I know that sounds cliche. I am committed to stand as a source of transformation for my students. Today I teach locally, and I am currently working on a yoga E-book.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s an ongoing process, and I know good things take time to develop. I often tell myself to be loving, trusting and committed and all will work out perfectly.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My main focus is to share my knowledge and to support others by building the foundation to a healthy, and happy yoga practice.

“Yoga, as a way of life and a philosophy, can be practiced by anyone with the inclination to undertake it, for yoga belongs to humanity as a whole. It is not the property of any one group or any one individual, but can be followed by any and all, in any corner of the globe, regardless of class, creed or religion.” -Shri K. Pattabhi Jois

Any person who is willing can do yoga, and it is accessible to anyone. I am super excited to be releasing my E-book, guiding you through fundamental basics of yoga.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was very active… My mother had me in every type of class/sport you could imagine. (art, piano, dance lessons, etc.) The only thing that really stuck with me was art, and in my later years I went to pursue my art career and was accepted into Chelsea College of Arts in London. I later then realized this was not the path for me… I still paint, but now yoga is a form of art in that which I can fully express myself. I have traveled to many countries to practice with some world profound teachers.

My father being a hippy at heart became a single parent after my mother passing at a young age… Life was tough. My younger brother and I had the freedom to do whatever, and whenever… I was a punk! I was always searching for something outside of myself to make the pain go away. After enrolling in a landmark and other personal development programs, I was able to find the tools to move forward. Through these processes I found yoga to be a sacred healing space.
