Meet Brian Jones of Bliss Beach in Marina Del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Jones.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I used to live in Kenya where I fell very in love with safari and mobile, luxury camping. I founded a travel company called Kin Travel, guiding safaris focused on leading conservation work and eventually designed our own tented hotel in the Caribbean which now lives in Jamaica. A year and a half ago, we were building lounges on the sand (basically just transporting our living room) to host our Kin community and bystanders kept asking what it was and if they could rent it, so it happened organically.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m grateful Bliss Beach has gained a lot of traction over quarantine and because of that came some challenges in growing a team and system.

Please tell us about Bliss Beach.
My girlfriend and I live in LA near the beach and we were making little ‘pop-up’ lounges that we could pull in a wagon to the sand to host friends – and it’s all grown organically from there.

Right now, we offer three set-ups for couples, families, and quarantine-mates: the Little Lounge for 2-4 people, the Safari Room for 6-10, and the Beach Picnic for 4-6. They are waiting on the sand when you arrive with everything you see on our website, including a cooler with ice blocks so all you’ve got to do is bring whatever you’d like to eat or drink. When it’s appropriate to host larger gatherings again, we also offer event set-ups ranging from the Big Kahuna for 18 – 20 people all the way up to the Full Riviera for 50 – 100 people.

We operate in LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Orange County. On weekends, we operate on a designated beach in each location in order to host multiple reservations. We service private locations with a travel fee on weekdays (M-Th) or buy-outs on weekend days, pending the distance and ease of access.

The Safari Room Deluxe is a very impressive space and reminds me of the way I grew up sitting in a circle with my family in beach chairs. The Little Lounge is uniquely picturesque, like a European day and perfect for tanning, even working from the beach, and the Picnic is for a meal setting.
