Meet Brian Jensen of Congruent Digital in Huntington Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Jensen.

Brian, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started in college. I was playing in a rock band that was gaining some traction locally and we decided to give it a push and see how far we could take it. I was responsible for building and maintaining our online presence which included getting gigs, promoting music and upcoming shows, connecting with radio stations, etc. We had some decent success which included regional touring, airplay on select radio stations and playing larger venues opening up for national acts. Many of these opportunities came as a result of my ability to promote the band and build relationships with influencers online.

After we graduated, the band eventually called it quits and I was able to find a job at a digital marketing agency doing something I loved and was good at! After working at multiple agencies, and gaining experience working with a wide variety of clients spanning a multitude of industries, I decided to take the leap and start my own company.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s really been a learning experience that’s included some bumps in the road. As a small business owner, you wear multiple hats and are responsible for essential operations that you may or may not consider your forte – it can certainly become a juggling act!

One lesson I learned early on, was to do your trademark research before establishing your company’s presence online! Months into starting my own business, I was sent a cease and desist letter from an advertising agency on the East Coast who felt my company name was just a little too similar to their own. After performing my own research and speaking with a trademark attorney, I decided to go through a rebrand which included a new domain, website, social channels, business cards, etc.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Congruent Digital story. Tell us more about the business.
At previous jobs working at other agencies, I was always siloed in the SEO department. I love SEO but understood that the customer path to purchase is rarely linear. We live in a multi-channel world and for many businesses, it’s essential to create a consistent brand experience across all channels and devices. With that being said, I’d say what I’m most proud of is being able to offer our clients cross-channel marketing solutions.

If a client needs a press release, we’re on it. If they are struggling with email, we can help. If their AdWords campaigns aren’t performing, we can optimize in a way that will lead to improvements. If a client’s website is dated and not providing an optimal visitor experience, we’ll build them a new one. You get the idea!

Every business is unique and every strategy and campaign we develop is customized to meet the needs of each one of our clients.

I’d say, something else that sets Congruent Digital apart from other marketing agencies is that we are selective about who we will take on as a client. We are not a turn and burn agency and truly view ourselves as an extension of our clients’ marketing departments. I evaluate each new client based on the overall potential I see for improvement, not on the contract value.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
One word; automation. I see the industry as a whole continuing to utilize tools and software that automate many of the day to day tasks, we perform for our clients. We’re already seeing many platforms incorporate elements of artificial intelligence, which ultimately, as the technology improves, I believe will help us make smarter, more data-driven decisions.

In digital, the only constant is change. In order to stay relevant, it’s essential to embrace this shift and always be exploring ways to utilize new technology to improve how you run your business and serve your clients.
