Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandyn Hernandez.
Hi Brandyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I won’t go too far back, I’ll start a few years ago when a good friend of mine says “B, you are such a connector. You have this extensive network of allies, and you link people together so effortlessly, it’s such a gift”. From that, it made me realize that there is more I can be doing. I can honestly say I’m nothing without my “Tribe”, my people that pull together to help make a positive impact in our community. Pops Purpose represents that. It’s purely the community, it’s a collective effort.
From that moment, the decision was made, I would be the connector in the community. I also learned that people have no problems giving back, they crave it, but they don’t want to be the one to start it. So not knowing what to do, I started a non-profit and began doing the work. My partner in all The Hip Pops endeavors, Freddy Hernandez, got to work on the creative side, and I took hold of the outreach and leveraged my relationships to do some good and it was an immediate success. We are most known for our toy drive, and 2021 is going to be our 3rd annual. We plan on having donation boxes in over 50 locations across the South Bay & LA County. We are partnering with several businesses (small and large) to make tough times for kids & families just a little bit better. We can all use some positivity to close out the year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the initial obstacles we got when forming Pops Purpose was, finding our niche. We established the nonprofit with this incredible mission statement, and it ended up going out of the window. Our niche found us. We find ourselves advocating for causes involving the youth. As a father, I have a soft space in me that can’t stand the thought of not having enough to give my kids. As someone who has personally faced personal challenges, it wasn’t always easy to get help. Our goal is to be a resource and make it easy for people to who need support to get it. Our challenges are a bit different. When it comes to the nonprofit world, we quickly learned that it’s all about trust & relationships. I have a LOT of relationships based on years of trust. The biggest obstacle now is spreading the word and finding more people to help.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pops Purpose Inc.?
As a non-profit organization we have a certain place in our hearts for giving. When you get to a certain point in life, and your own needs are met, your eyes open wider to be more aware that the person, sometimes standing right next to you, needs a little help meeting their needs. These occurrences are highlighted even more when we are faced daily with social injustices, racism, absentee representation, corruption that leaves all of us feeling cemented and helpless.
Pops Purpose Inc. will stand for the underprivileged, the underrepresented & the voiceless. Tough times are upon so many of us, especially during today’s health crises, political & economic turmoil, we want to be a beacon of light amongst the darkness this year has brought us.
Pops Purpose is the pillar in the community to connect the people with the resources.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Our job at Pops Purpose is to be socially responsible with our actions and our output with the understanding that our work speaks to something bigger than us – our legacy.
Our goal is to grow within our community and leave behind a world better than how we have it. We stand at the forefront of change, involvement, advocacy, and positivity for us and future generations.
