Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Flint.
Hi Brandy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a fashion stylist for over 15 years. I have worked in all sectors of the fashion industry and I loved what I did. When I first started styling, I was the one who creatively directed the shoots. I would put together the concepts, choose the models and select the hair and makeup artists. I really liked the back-end work of putting together a story and seeing it come to life. After years of tirelessly styling, I decided that I would start a creative artist agency. I want to continue to be a voice in the industry as well as be a teacher to new artists and build with already established individuals. I started The Taylor Christian Agency in February 2022. I went back to my original hustle of reaching out to people and letting them know about the agency. I started with people I had worked within the past and branched out via word of mouth. I even posted the openings on several sites. Today, we have 15 artists, across four different major cities that we represent. They are an amazing diverse group of artists whose experience ranges from 5 to 30 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, It has not been a smooth road at all…lol. The struggle has been to get people to believe in my dream and what I can bring to the table as their agent. I went through 600 applications and read through each one. I signed five artists immediately, two of whom were my colleagues that I had a long working relationship with. I was so excited, then, four of them dropped out for different reasons, I only had one artist and had to start from scratch again. I was devastated, but it did not stop me from moving forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a boutique, creative artist agency that provides makeup artistry, hair styling, fashion styling and photography to brands and celebrities. We have artists in Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York City. Our artists have been published in magazines such as Elle & Vogue, working for brands like Nike as well as local establishments. We pride ourselves on diversity inclusion and our artists are skilled in all facets of fashion & beauty. There is nothing they haven’t done or can’t do.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have learned that communication is key. During this process, I took the time to speak with each of my artists in depth. We talked about family, the industry, the struggles they had been through and what their future looks like. We all have the same goals and they are not only great artists but great people.
