Meet Brandon McCullen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon McCullen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in the inner city you rarely saw anything healthy as an option to eat, which led to seeing your community over indulge on fast food and anything with a high sugar content. If you were to ask your classmates and friends growing up if they knew what asparagus or bok choy was their eyes would glaze over and look at you like you were weird. That’s because the average vegetables eaten were frozen green beans, carrots, broccoli and some spinach in their occasionally but that’s as far as it went. I always saw this as a problem and at an early age I would get on the ground and do as many as crunches and push ups as I could because in my mind I didn’t want to be out of shape like everybody else.

After my collegiate sport days were done it became completely all on me to work out and eat right. And honestly it was tough, my motivation wasn’t their nor did I have the discipline to give it my all day in and day out. I began talking about a healthy lifestyle more than actually living one. And one day I was taking groceries out the car and after placing them in my home I noticed myself heavenly breathing. I immediately thought this can’t be who I am now. So I looked in the mirror and had an honest conversation with myself. I decided If I want change, I have to commitment myself and change my lifestyle.

The more I embraced a healthy lifestyle the more it became who I am, I started talking to my family about things they can do to improve their eating habits, giving my friends workout guides and group training my colleagues after work. Seeing my colleagues and friends tell me they can’t do it and then five minutes later having that oh snap, “I did it” moment was all the confirmation I needed. I was apart of someone’s success, I helped someone dig deep and push to get achieve results and believe in themselves. Thats when I knew fitness was a passion of mine.

Me becoming a motivational speaker has been something inside of me that I just never fully embraced. I always used my words to encourage others. I understood from being an athlete and having a team of co-workers how much words can conjure up emotions and drive you to achieve results. So as I began giving peep talks to clients, I realized my positive words were my weapons against fear, anxiety, laziness and negativity. Which encouraged me to go speak at events and inspire others to hit their goals, inspire others to realize everything they want to is on the other side of fear. Motivate someone to realize if you don’t make time to create the life you want. You are eventually going to spend a lot of time dealing with a life you don’t want.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I first started I had nothing but my ego lol. I thought if you build it they will come. Yup that’s a great way to fail fast and that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t have any workout plans, structure, price points and most of all I never even tried to talk to people. I figured if I put up some workouts on social media. If I make a couple of speeches they will go viral and people will book me for training and speaking events. Yeah ummm, that didn’t happen. I got my first training client four long months after becoming a trainer and didn’t get any speaking bookings until seven months later.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Currently, I am building a massive empire of positivity and motivation. I am currently writing a book that I am crazy excited for the world to read and be inspired. I am speaking at keynotes/events/schools/companies building my brand, I am starting a podcast series that you can listen, laugh, argue, relate, and feel inspired as you go through your day and putting out my own workout plans so everyone at home can take on my fitness challenges and workouts anywhere at anytime.

With there being so many trainers in the industry and a surge of motivational speakers it can become difficult for some to set themselves apart. For me, I embrace the competition because I am completely 100 percent being myself. I eat sleep and breath-holding yourself accountable, maintaining positive thoughts and being genuine to all those I meet. It’s not about being real, to me its about loving the hell out of yourself, pushing yourself, evolving your mind and surpassing who you want to become. You get that when you train with me, you feel my passion when you hear my voice, you get fired up and when you see we come from the same places, you relate because I’m figuring it out everyday just like you and you get motivated because I wake up with the attitude of you damn sure will not outwork me!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck HA!

Luck wasn’t there when I was sick and still stayed up to research.
Luck wasn’t typing speeches on my computer at 3am and having to be up for work at 5am.
Luck wasn’t napping for five minutes between clients just to refresh myself.
Luck wasn’t feeding me when all I could afford was to eat was potatoes.
Luck wasn’t getting told no 178 times before my first client said yes.
Luck wasn’t there when no one was booking me for speaking events.
Luck wasn’t training clients while having a partially torn Achilles heel.

Don’t let luck fool you, I worked and continue to grind for this!
