Meet Brandon Kennedy of PunchCity Collection in Aliso Viejo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Kennedy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2014, I started PUNCHcity Collection with the assistance of three other gentlemen, as a way to build a legacy for our families and create a space that allowed us to control our most valuable assets, which is time. PUNCHcity Collection is about punching through adversity, whether it be social, economical, racial, health, or relationship related. Whatever the adversity, we PUNCH through. Our mantra is, “Greatness is a marathon, not a race,” and our mission statement is, “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, popularity fades. “

Since starting PUNCHcity Collection, the brand has been featured on “In The Cut” and “Family Time” on Bounce TV and “East Los High” on Hulu.

Building a brand is not easy. Although we started in 2014, we really just started to get our feet up under us in the last three years. What I mean by that is in the beginning we were taking advantage of because you dont know what you don’t know, taken advantage of by designer and production but now we are solid on both fronts.

We have a PUNCHcity Street Collection, which is more design/graphic heavy collection.

PUNCHcity Classic Collection it’s our more preppy collection we use a lot of red, white, and blue colorways in this collection.

PUNCHcity Signature Collection I refer to this as our sexy collection, everything in this collection bares of Signature logo sleek, simple, sophisticated.

The Collection I’m am most excited about is our newest collection PCS an acronym for PUNCHcity Sports. Luxury sportswear is how I would describe this brand the quality of the material we use for this collection is 2nd to none, we really stepped our game up on this collection.

What next for us is to stay diligent about the process keep moving the brand forward. Recently I was on live with Heather B on SiriusXM’s urban view ch 126 talking about the brand, that was definitely a good look. We also just shot some super dope content with Ashley Everett and we have some new items for the PCS collection dropping soon. We did a tribute to Kobe hoodie that is Amazing! So I’m very excited about our future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There as absolutely been struggles, most of them have been financial. Finances are usually the biggest hurdle for small business especially black-owned. Also finding good quality, reliable, ethical production. At one point, someone tried to charge us $800 per sample, which is outrageous but when you want something to work so badly others can see that and use it as an opportunity to take advantage of you.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the PunchCity Collection story. Tell us more about the business.
I handle all the day to day functions of the business whether is posting on social media to mailing out orders. I am responsible for the structure and breakdown of the brand. I formulated the meaning of the brand, our mantra, and mission statement. Although the “be more concerned with your character than your reputation is a John wooden quote, I add the popularity fades portion. I am known for making it happen that’s my specialty, our CFO Matthew Henry has been amazing at securing capital for the brand to continue to move forward, which is what I’m most proud of as a company despite the obstacles whether financial or otherwise we continue to punch through!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I like to refer to luck as God and God’s plan. Nothing is by chance, my mother told me your story is already written before you were born, so everything that has happened and will happen good, bad, or otherwise is a part of his plan. So yes, luck has played a role. God has put some amazing people on this journey with me and removed others that were not on the same page. Everyone you start with will not be with you when you cross the finish line
