Meet Brandon Hake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Hake.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating with a degree in Architecture from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY, I began working at an architecture firm drafting grocery stores. I worked as an architectural designer for several years working on projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Michigan and California. After being relocated to an architecture office in Irvine, CA, I attended Chapman University’s Master of Fine Arts in Production Design Program. I graduated from Chapman University in 2019 and began working in the art department for film and television. Using my background in architecture and my experience designing, building and decorating sets for many independent films, I have been able to work with talented designers and artists throughout Los Angeles. I am currently a member of the Art Director’s Guild Production Design Initiative program, which trains young designers to become art directors in film and television. When I am not working in art departments around Hollywood, I spend my time as a freelance designer working on pen and ink architectural illustrations, architectural drafting and concept rendering.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Moving 3500 miles from my home town to Los Angeles was the biggest challenge of my life. Financially, emotionally and physically moving away from everything you’ve ever known was a transition that needed my total focus, commitment and flexibility. Living in the city of Los Angeles is something that I love and am so proud of. Every obstacle that I have endured over the past few years has been nothing more than a motivator for me to conquer my goals without interruptions.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a professional working in film and TV design, I have had to become very well versed in a lot of artist subjects. My strongest attribute is my ability to understand and execute drafting for architectural projects, television sets and everything in between. I often work in AutoCAD, Sketchup and Revit. I am also confident in pen and ink perspective drawings which I often use as a concept pitch for construction teams for residential exterior redesigns. I also am literate in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and can provide renders, graphics and more.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m lucky that I understand the difference between motivation and luck.
