Meet Brandie Rossi of Pantry LA in 8336 Melrose Avenue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandie Rossi.

Driving down the bustling streets of LA with zero time to stop and eat at a restaurant. “I’ll just pull over at a convenience store and grab something to eat. Pulls over to unnamed corner store, goes inside, spends ten minutes scanning aisles and land on a semi ripe banana and a plastic bottle of water.

Why can they never have anything healthy at these places? Sometime later two minds met and speculated the idea of creating “just another convenience store. which developed into opening just another little organic market. which evolved into the Visions and Curations that created what we can run into for something fast and walk out with a hand, bag, or armful of healthy food options for those on the go, or quarantine days.

The first of many to come, with a rotation of products to keep things fresh to look forward to. Soon you find yourself planning your busy day drive around this little curated place where everybody knows your name. and like the song says. is always glad you came.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are large organic markets with relatively the same brands on all their shelves. Every one of them has a mission statement that makes sense, that has values, that provides to masses. The one thing they lack.. enough one on one time, and it’s not their fault. They have sales goals, mass amounts of customers to smaller staff numbers, it is just the growing economy of consumption. There are memberships you can pay for that make you a bit more exclusive. There are one or two people that work there that you may make some sort of connection with enough to get a bit more of their time than them pointing at an aisle that your product search is in. There are the familiar and safe smells and textures you develop attachments to as you build up trips there.

What about the experience of having someone know your name, your daily ins and outs, your favorite pasta sauce. calling you when they get something in WEEKS after you casually mention something you wanted… inviting you to dinners they have cooked by the brands on their shelves.. A naturopath that, even during Covid, you can face time with and get her help with your health, your stress, your fear. A smile and a familiar face DAILY, not many different faces that never really know you. These are all the things that were on my mind daily.. as I developed this project out.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I grew up on 80 acres in the deep woods settings of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I had two sets of grandparents owning farms and gardens that sold to the public, as well as working with the less fortunate to help feed and shelter them, I developed a set of standards for health and well being that perhaps was a fortunate spin of the life wheel that sent me on a lifetime journey of the pursuit of health and wellness.

I attained a degree in Nutritional and Exercise Science and spent most of my career in gyms and sports nutrition worlds, but always has a spot for the farmers market in the center of my heart missing a beat most of my young adult life.

I decided in my mid 30’s to go deeper into that by studying naturopathic medicine and getting a master herbalist certification. Once that was checked off, I spent years at Erewhon, in both the Nutrition Division and Store Manager/Director division. These experienced gave me a super curated perspective on what worked in the world of organic retail and what worked for me, was a small market where your neighbors were people you cared about more than 30 seconds a day on a large retail floor that was about those six figure numbers. I wanted to be in a setting that was intimate, and curate relationships with brands that were YOUNG and NEW. who needed a floor to present their amazing healthy food and nutrition brands without giving their left kidney to be on the shelves. I wanted to be the downshift of crazy busy shopping experiences to the hang out and learn a few things about what you eat and what your body needs.

So, I took this partnership offer to build this small curated space with my partner Soli Besherat and we have spent the last year in a state of ideas, smiles, discoveries and tending to our market and its values. We care about the unique experience of both BRAND and CUSTOMER. We want you to feel like you matter from the simple bottle of water, to the grocery basket you fill up in our aisles. I want you to feel like I took my time to give you a few things that are your comfort go to items, then added in a bunch of new discoveries that leave you excited to get home, or even open in the car on the way home, or the walk back to your house down the street. I want you to feel cared about in a world that , often, seems a bit more to care about profit. For me, YOUR contentment with your purchases, your questions answered, your health cared for and your feeling of satisfaction, is worth more than anything.
