Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Charlot.
Hi Brandi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Beginning as an event planner was the seed that blossomed me into an internationally certified and licensed floral designer. I had become more than just a flower lady, but I had begun to stem into my calling and understanding how beautifully flowers can change spaces. My love for textures and floral art educated my artistry and my desire to showcase flowers as cultural art. I always loved how flowers left myself and those I served with an “experience” so I began to feel more compelled to step away from event planning and explore floral design full time — NEVER HAVE I LOOKED BACK SINCE.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Do flowers bloom overnight? Certainly, it has been a process in my journey. I am an artist and I love to tell stories through flowers, so every step of the way has contributed to my story of course. I am a mother of three, just obtained my Master’s Degree and as a blooming businesswoman — I have not always had the luxury to stop and smell the roses. At times there has been trials, but I’ve always triumphed through my faith in God and believed that my calling in this industry has already been predestined!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
As the curator and owner of the first black-owned flower shop and design bar in the lower 9th ward of New Orleans— I have learned to ALWAYS stay authentic in my gift and to never waiver to appeal to what looks to be the norm in my industry. I have literally planted my own individual mark as an internationally certified and licensed floral designer—especially as a woman and more so as a black woman. The lesson of “staying true to yourself” shines through in my business, my work ethic, my service to customers and the foundation for other women in business that I set to portray in my community.
