Meet Brad Scott of One Gift in El Segundo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Scott.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brad. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in LA and raised in Long Beach. I’d like to give a special shout out to two parents who always made my sister and me feel like we had enough, all on a shoestring budget. No story that includes me can start without them. As a kid, I grew up going to work with my dad who worked at the Los Angeles mission for 10+ years. Through my volunteering at the Los Angeles mission, big brother program, and various day shelters, I learned the importance of showing up as you are to let your gifts combine with that of others to make a great tapestry of healing energy. In all of my volunteering experiences, I learned the power and importance of feeling heard and being truly seen.

Human connection and having a meaningful outlet to express one’s self can be just as necessary as food and water for a person’s growth and mental health. As an undergraduate, I became very interested in psychology, which continued through grad school, where I got a degree in marriage and family therapy. All of my background has lead me to where I am now. A licensed marriage and family therapist who does both psychotherapy and coaching. My gift has always been that I help people realize the best versions of themself through mirroring back parts of themselves that might have gone undervalued. I’ve continued to develop my gifts through my work with non-profits to help domestic violence and human trafficking survivors, homeless veterans, and foster care youth and families. I recently started my private practice and am very much excited to see where my journey leads me next.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been many bumps and obstacles along the way. My most recent challenge has been the decision to start my own private practice and to start working for myself. Finding the balance between very tangible concerns like keeping the lights on and expressing my unfettered passion for therapy and coaching has forced me to rearrange obstacles that once seems fixed. It has already been one of the most challenging, rewarding, enriching experience I have had to date. So pull that obstacle closer and let’s use it as a couch.
