Meet Bonnie Gayle of Bonnies Books

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Gayle.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bonnie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was a little girl I could never decide  what I wanted to be when I grew up. All I knew was I loved to push buttons and thought that being a cashier would give me button pushing to my little hearts content. Several years later, After college I ended up working for a company cutting checks for them. There were so many checks to do that I thought doing this on a computer would save time vs the hours I was spending manually writing them  Months later,After I got them set up on a computer based software program I was invited to a party where I met a CPA who asked me what I was doing. When I told her about my current position she asked me if I would be interested in more clients. I happily agreed and added to my portfolio.

A couple of months later this same CPA recommended me for an interim CFO position. Part of the interviewing process for this position required me to interpret the financial position of the company based on their financial statements. I had NEVER seen a financial statement so I guessed and got lucky. When I was hired a few days later, I hired a teacher to train me at night while I worked during the day and withIn 2 months I became a full-charge bookkeeper and was able to correct all the mistakes I had made (not knowing what I was doing initially) prior to the CPA’s audit! I passed the audit with flying colors and I was ecstatic.
Since that time, 27 years later I have turned eight companies that were on the verge of bankruptcy into profitable, sustainable businesses and have worked with 100s of entrepreneurs and small businesses on saving money on taxes, getting better benefits from business spending, and keeping more of the money they make.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Getting started was the easy part. I still realized I had a lot to learn however. For instance, I needed more training I also realized I had to step up at times when I got clients who were oblivious to the financial troubles they were in. My first few years in business I attracted a lot of clients in financial hardships that they did not recognize, Turning them around was an opportunity for to stretch myself in ways I never thought I was capable. All of these opportunities working with different businesses has given me a wealth of knowledge, expansive array of business experience I would never have had otherwise.
After the housing market crashed in 2008 many of my clients were affected. All of the stress caused me to fall out of love with my business .This frustrated me to no end. For 8 years my business ran on autopilot…

Once I realized that it was the end results my clients were getting and not the number crunching, the passion and excitement returned. Today I truly love what I do and am grateful to be a guiding resource for so many business owners and entrepreneurs who want to be successful.
