Meet Bobbie Cheri Gobert of Don’t You Dairy in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbie Cheri Gobert.

Bobbie Cheri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Cooking has always been apart of my life. My mother is a professional chef and all my aunts and grandparents are/were excellent cooks. Although some would say I love food more than actual people, cooking was the furthest thing from my mind as far as a career. My journey is a little interesting.

At the age of 15, I started braiding then went on to get my cosmetology license. At 18, I started touring as a background singer for various artists. That led to songwriting and in 2008, I signed a deal with Jamie Foxx’s publishing company as a songwriter.

From 2008 – 2016, I continued to do music and in 2011 started an accessory business with a partner. We parted ways in 2016 and I started BCG Creative. My company puts all of my skills under one umbrella, allowing me to do all the creative things that I love.

In the midst of all of the great things that were happening in my life, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which I talk about in my cookbook, Don’t You Dairy. My doctor suggested that I give up dairy. Being the foodie that I am, I knew this would be challenging so I spent most of my time in the kitchen. I started creating recipes to help me get through what I believed was a crisis. Somewhere between the vegan cheese and a steak the idea to write a cookbook for the dairy-free was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
This has not been an easy ride. Most people aren’t familiar with fibromyalgia and its difficult to explain something that, in a nutshell, is literally all in your head. Not having the energy to do things slows down your progress and affects your mood. I had to encourage myself daily to get things done. This process from the conception of my cookbook to completion was about five years.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Everyone loves my desserts. Some say that my food is their favorite thing to eat. Don’t You Dairy is growing daily and I am super proud of myself for pushing through my ailments and completing my goal.

I released my cookbook Don’t You Dairy, my birthday weekend November 10th, 2019. Since then, I have had write ups, interviews, and my cookbook is currently sold at Simply Wholesome. I’ve hired Artwerk Creative, a marketing strategy company in Los Angeles, to assist with the growth of my business. Alana, owner of Artwerk Creative, keeps me on track with content calendars, check-ins, and updates. 2020 is off to a great start.

There will always be people who do what you do or something very similar. What separates me from others is my personality. It’s apart of anything I do. I believe everything starts with a connection no matter what you are selling. I want people to know my story, see themselves where they can, and be encouraged.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the perfect place for Don’t You Dairy. People are paying more attention to their health and what they put in their body. There are people who want to eliminate dairy from their diet but don’t necessarily want to be vegan. They also want the food to be delicious. I think I’m on to something!
