Meet Heather Bruhn of Birch Family Birth Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Bruhn.

Heather is the founder of Birch Family Birth Services and has had a passion for serving women and children for as long as she can remember. While maintaining a career in business operations, she began to make the transition into doula work after the birth of her second child in 2014 when she realized how little non-judgmental support there is for new mothers today. Because women today are bombarded with the message that there is a “right” way to birth and parent, Heather wanted to create a space where new families could go for education, unbiased support, and an abundance of encouragement.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have worked long and hard to find professionals who are reputable, certified, and who will uphold the vision of Birch. Because we have a space at the mall (high overhead), I’ve had to work the majority of our open hours until the classes are bringing in enough of a profit that we can pay an employee. That means if I’m up all night at a birth, I would still come into space the next morning.

Birch Family Birth Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We assist with all things pregnancy, birth, and baby! Located at the Oaks Mall in the outdoor courtyard, we offer classes, workshops, and services to support families through the prenatal and postpartum period.

Birch serves Ventura County, Los Angeles County, and its surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide you with unbiased support, tailored to your personal preferences, while ensuring that you feel informed and well prepared for labor, birth and beyond.

All Birch team members adhere to high professional standards. We meet our clients where they are in their pregnancy or parenting journey, walking alongside them with unbiased support and an abundance of encouragement. Women today are bombarded with the message that there is a “right” way to birth and parent.

In actuality, it is up to each individual family to make those decisions for themselves. Our team of birth professionals will be there every step of the way to support, educate, and encourage families in a way that is personally tailored to their needs and preferences.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when a parent feels well supported, well informed, and has a great experience with whatever they service they come to us for. Whether that means a great birth experience, getting their baby into a sleep routine, navigating struggles with feeding, or just figuring out how to take care of a newborn, we want to make birth and parenthood that much easier.
