Today we’d like to introduce you to Karol.
Karol, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been an artist at heart. I started collaging as a kid, I would draw and paint I even made my own dress and purse at seven years old. I used to rave in the 90’s and I’d go all out on my looks I would even draw them before making them or putting them together! I started making really weird jewelry… I remember when I first made pieces as a kid… Id drill holes into my lil dolls and id soak the bones in my soup in bleach and drill holes in them! String them up like it was meant to be on my neck… In biology class I’d ask everyone to give me the hard part if their fish eyeballs and strung it up to make a bracelet… Everyone always thought I was such a weirdo… But it felt so natural to me… Now that I have played with different materials, crystals and stones…
I used to manage salons in the late 90’s and every time a client would see my jewelry they wanted to buy it right off my neck. I started making stuff and put it up at the front desk! I started styling people too because they always loved what I wore. I became a personal shopper for some of these ladies and started doing their make up and taking pics just for fun. Around 2002 I started doing these impromptu photoshoots of my friends and my photography took on its own life I had at least 5-10 clients a week wanting me to transform them and shoot them! By 2006 I busted out my old jewelry box and decided to start creating again and my rule was I can only work with what I have!! So there it started all over again my creative mode and it took off, my jewelry is its own story, so is my photography, my paintings too it’s like I can compartmentalize every section of my creativity and breathe life into it. I crochet, I work with leather, yarn I do wall art with yarn too… you can see most of my work on bflyart.com and my jewelry and t-shirt line on my online store superbfly.com having social media really helped as much as I wasn’t a 9-5 person in the last four years I’ve been truly blessed to be a full-time artist and make use of my time by being super productive and dive into what I love the most, last year I started djing which I never planned on doing, but I got close to 50 paid gigs in the whole year, I’m just always impressed with how the universe works and how law of attraction is too real!!! I’m so blessed and always on a path to manifest!!!
Has it been a smooth road?
The only struggles I’ve ever had have been me being hard on myself and leaving things for the last minute, getting distracted by unimportant things, other than that I feel like when I’m in a zone, I can truly be as productive as I choose to be.
What else should our readers know?
BFLY is my nickname so my business is ME, honing in the precious creative juices and making the most of my time and materials. I am an artist, photographer and jewelry designer. What sets me apart is my vision, my eye for things that stand out in general.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I feel like “the industry” is what you want it to be, I always see things coming back in style and I’m super impressed when things are fresh and futuristic also when there’s a mix of both.
