Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Alfred.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
So my story starts in a city just north of New Orleans called Slidell, Louisiana. Family, God, and sports made me the person I am today. I was raised by amazing parents who were both entrepreneurs and very involved in the community. My father, Ray Alfred, was a great role model and source of inspiration for me. I remember watching my father work so much when I was younger. His work ethic and dedication to the community helped shape me tremendously.
Growing up in a city like Slidell I was surrounded by family and people who wanted to see me succeed. I am the youngest of 3 children, Brother (Chad) and Sister (Latanya), both of which played major roles in my development as a young man. In addition, I had a huge extended family living nearby, giving me the opportunity to learn many life lessons from my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Being around all of my cousins and competing in everything as a child made me super competitive. That is why I fell in love with sports and physical activities. After graduating from high school, where I played a myriad of different sports, I went on to Southeastern Louisiana University on a Track and Field scholarship. College was a great but very trying time in my life. In those four years, I had to deal with the tragic death of my Grandmother, I survived hurricane Katrina but lost almost everything, and I had a terrible injury that would have ended the athletic career of many. All of those things, no matter how difficult they were at the time, revealed to me my true strength. Learning how to overcome adversity and find the positive in the darkest situations is a gift I was blessed with.
After I graduated from college, I went straight into coaching. I love the sport of track and field but I loved helping others overcome adversity even more. Being able to recruit kids from all over the world and show them how to navigate the minefield of college was truly a great experience for me. I coached at three different universities as well as three high schools. Coaching track was something I took great pride in. It wasn’t until my father passed away that I knew I needed to be doing more.
In September of 2014, my dad died from complications due to heart disease. Losing my father was very difficult for me and still is. I was depressed and stuck in a dark place for a while. I decided I needed to make a change in my life and that’s when I decided to move to California and pursue a career in personal health and fitness coaching. I originally moved to the Bay Area and was working for a fitness company in order to learn the ins and outs of the industry. With no family and only the new friends I had made in the bay I started to feel unfulfilled. A good friend of mine who was living down in LA happened to call me up one day as he was passing through San Francisco with his nonprofit D.A.D Project. After talking with him for a few minutes I knew I needed to move down to LA and become a part of his organization.
After moving to LA things just started to happen for me. I met many amazing people who have helped me along the way. Now I am proud to be the owner of my very own fitness training center, Beyond Fitness 365. I am extremely proud of this place. I have amazing partners who help to create a great environment for fitness, but we truly pride ourselves on going BEYOND the workout. We strive to transform mindset alongside physical health and appearance. With a well-rounded approach we want all of our clients to reach their fitness goals but also leave everyday feeling better and stronger in all aspects of their lives.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road that has led me here has not always been smooth. It has been filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I have learned to look forward and be thankful for some of the downs and twists in life. It’s in those times where you grow and learn most. You become more prepared for the ups and more grateful of the blessings you have. If the path is too easy you must be going the wrong way. I was always taught to be a trailblazer and to follow the path that God has for me. So as long as I keep the faith, I can never be stopped nor get lost.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was so full of energy and loved to be outside and active. I enjoyed playing with my family and friends. I was always trying to be the coolest or funniest around. I was eager to grow up and now I wish I could go back in time.
