Meet Beverly and Wesley Pagano of Bel Fiore Designs in Thousand Oaks / WLV

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly and Wesley Pagano.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Plato said, “Necessity is the mother of all Inventions” and Bel Fiore Designs is an illustration of just that.

In one month, we were engaged to be married, unemployed and committed to blooming two weddings with floral design.

You see, Wes had been designing floral arrangements for Whole Foods Market for nine years prior to their merge with Amazon. The new business model did not include custom floral, so Wes was essentially out of creative work. Whole Foods told Wes to contact the two clients they had booked for wedding florals and cancel. He could not find it in his heart to do that, so he agreed to take on the florals independently trusting that he’d figure it out somehow.

In that same month, the owner of the Wellness Center Beverly was running decided to pull the plug and set his sails for writing the language of consciousness.

So with the necessity of finding income and redirecting our own sails, we looked each other in the eye, took a deep breathe and smiled. “Let’s do this”.

Wes continued planning the wedding florals and Beverly set up the operations for Bel Fiore with a website, business license, cards and shirts. Bel Fiore means “Beautiful Flower” in Italian, Wes’s roots. We knew that the worst case scenario was failure and with unconditional love and devotion to one another, nothing was too scary not to try.

The two weddings were a success and we’ve been in business for five straight years with 22 wedding under our belt.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some things have been super smooth, however most things required relentless navigation.

Owning and operating a business with your spouse requires patience, dedication and humor. We’re constantly trading hats of creativity and practicality. Sometimes gracefully, sometimes not.

Love trumps all. Some people will tell you you’re crazy to go into business with your spouse. But we’ve learned to basically ignore “fear filled” advice. We lean into our passion for life and trust the Lord will see us through any storm.

Please tell us about Bel Fiore Designs.
Edgy, unique and fun to work with…

We draw our inspiration from our customers. We meet all of our clients face to face so we can get a feel for their vibe and learn their language. We don’t have a form to fill out online. We meet you, talk about your sacred memories and favorite smells. While we’re most known for a “Rustic Chic” style, we love it all.

Wes’s passion and enthusiasm make him a joy to work with. His absolute dedication lets clients know that his personal and professional goal is to bring their ideas to life.

Beverly’s attention to detail and limitless ideas put our clients at ease.

We specialize in weddings and events, but a few times a month we’ll accommodate a local request for an arrangement to be delivered. Those last minute anniversary or birthday gifts…We love our community and haven’t turned anyone down yet.

We also lead fun floral design workshops where we teach you how to make table arrangements, garlands, wreaths, floral crowns and more.

Besides our unparalleled connection to our clients, what sets us most apart is the Floral Body aspect to our business. Birthed from unused product, Beverly started taking flowers leftover from projects and making our own line of Skin Care Products. Lip Balms, Mineral Soaks, Toners, Scrubs and Adult Play Dough! You can take the girl out of the spa, but you can’t take the spa out of the girl.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We’re precisely where we are because of every decision we’ve made. Grande down to the minutiae. So we wouldn’t change anything in our journey to present.

A good lesson learned though… Always have a contract between customers, even with friends or for a small job. In the beginning, it felt too “corporate” to require this, but after a few scenarios, we’ve grown to love our contracts. It takes the guessing out of the “what if” scenarios and frees up the creative flow.

  • Our wedding and events are typically between $2,500 and $20,000
