Meet Bernardo Mellado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernardo Mellado.

Bernardo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always considered myself as a creative person. My backgrounds its been always in the design field in the car industry. My bachelor’s degree is “Industrial Design” and my master’s degree is in “Transportation Design.”

During this time, I was felt that I was missing something, and I realized I was enjoying taking pictures with my cellphone so three years ago, that’s when I decided to buy my first semi-professional photography camera. Basically, I was carrying it with me at all times, and I saw I was improving a lot on my photography skills.

Within the time I thought that I needed a better camera so eventually, I upgraded jumping to a professional camera. I was completely surprised of how much I was enjoying and learning photography. The type of photography I was into at that time was an urban street style.

Somehow down in the road, I got some opportunities to start photo shooting portraits. At the beginning, I wasn’t sure about it and if I was going to like it but eventually I did liked it. Again, I decided to upgrade to a better and more professional camera and also got more photography equipment as new lenses, lighting, gimbals, etc.

Currently, my photography level has jumped from urban style and landscape to portrait and even more to product photography.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As expected, none of these experiences were and still not being easy. There are a lot of obstacles and challenges, some of them, for example, having a regular job and not having enough time to dedicate it to photography.

Also, there is a lot of talent out there, and one of the biggest mistakes is when you get demotivated by comparing your work with others when you should actually use it as an inspiration for you to learn and grow.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Currently I work in the car industry in the design process managing Digital Design area. Also I do Photography in different styles, from Street style, Urban Photography, Landscape, Product and Portrait Photography.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Traveling with my family to the beach in Texas. Always excited to spend days and have fun on the beach with them
