Meet Bella Skyller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella Skyller.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story starts in a small town in southern Sweden called Helsingborg. I grew up in a family where both my parents had a great interest in music and were great musicians themselves. Because of this, I got captivated by music in a very young age. Singing has always been my biggest passion and I started singing English songs when I was four years old without knowing the meaning of the words. I started writing my own songs when I was nine years old and picked up a guitar and learned how to play when I was ten. I always dreamed about singing and performing on big stages and when I was old enough, I joined my father’s band as the lead singer and guitarist. We did all kinds of gigs, from small intimate performances with acoustic vibes, where the sound of the guitars along with plentiful voices smoothly elapse among the audience, to big events where the wild audience sang along to the songs. But I was dreaming about bigger things.

Three years ago, I decided to move to Los Angeles to continue my studies in business and finished my studies within business communication and leadership. At that time music was only a hobby for me and I was so sure that I wanted to work within the business industry. My band back home in Sweden got a gig for that summer and I decided to find a place to take vocal lessons at to maintain my voice when I was here. Since I had never taken a single vocal or guitar lesson in my life, I thought it was about time.

My vocal coach Moa was the one who really brought me back to my biggest passion in life. Moa was also the one who got me into writing my own music. February 8th, 2018 I released my first single “Love Me Louder”. After releasing it, a Swedish producer contacted me and wanted to do a remix of it. The remix turned out so well that a Swedish Record Label named TGR Music Group wanted to sing the song. The song got placed on over 400 different playlists on Spotify, and it got over half a million streams.

A year ago, I decided to really work on my biggest dream, becoming an artist. I applied to the “Independent Artist” program at Musicians Institute in Hollywood and graduated two months ago.

One month ago, I released my new single “Bedroom Eyes” under my new artist name “Bella Skyller”. The song is about the mysterious way bodies can connect with each other, how bad you can want somebody. The passion and heat between two lovers and the beauty of being close to someone. The darkness and the aggressive sounds combined with the stripped and raw lyrics make it powerful in a way I think people can relate to.

Right now, I’m working on my upcoming EP that I want to release at the end of this year.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Success does never come easy and I believe that no one has a smooth road. What has been really challenging for me is how to do most of it myself. When I first started doing music, I had no idea how to produce, I didn’t know how to do all the visual parts of music, and I had to do some mistakes to learn and grow. There will always be a lot of judgments and people have opinions that somedays makes the road a bit harder than other days, but I like to see that as motivation. I have been lucky to have friends who work within the music industry that always supports me and helps me out when I needed them.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
When I first started writing music I had no clue what to either write about or what genre I was into. Because I listen to all kind of music I wanted to do a combination of different genres. I started combining different styles to make my own. My sense of perfection, my warm tones, stripped lyrics and rich melodies, together with dark elements and aggressive sounds made me fit in the dark pop world.

My songs are about love in different forms and life as a restless girl. I like to write from my own experiences which makes my song very personal and special to me.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have had a lot of luck when it comes to growing up around music and to be able to do what I love. I’m so lucky to have family and friends who support me. I have had good luck in meeting great people in the industry, people that believe in me and my music and wants to help me fulfill my dream. I think it’s important to not take good luck for granted. I believe if you work hard, use every opportunity to its full potential and learn from your mistakes, good luck will come your way,

I have also had a lot of bad luck, but bad luck always makes me realize how bad I actually want to fulfil my dream. Bad luck makes me work harder, think bigger and see things from different perspectives. I see bad luck as lessons, motivation to do better, a chance to change things and grow. Sometimes you need some bad luck to actually enjoy the good luck later on.
