Meet Becca Braren of Signals and Noise in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Braren.

My path to Signals & Noise Agency has been more of an upside down rollercoaster than a meandering walk through a pastoral landscape. Which I suppose is fortunate… because all the unexpected drops and twists have compelled me to develop the unusual blend of skills needed to do what I do effectively.

I’ve always been equally fascinated by three things: art, business, and psychology. For over two decades in academic, personal and professional settings I have learned everything I can about these three topics, where they intersect, and how I can apply this information to help my clients reach their goals more efficiently than my competition.

I have been guided by an eclectic array of experts. I attended top academic institutions for psychology and art (CIIS, CalArts & Pacifica) to hone my creative and analytical sides. I worked at top global talent and media agencies and institutions (CAA, LATimes, Sony) honing my understanding of brand development and entertainment. I worked with world-renowned artists (Kesha, John Mayer, and Blake Shelton) and top global brands (Apple, Google, and Facebook). And I ran my own creative agency headquartered at various times in San Francisco, Venice Beach, and now Culver City.

Somehow in the middle of all those jobs and degrees I managed to have four curious, ethical, delicious sons who inspire me to do my best in everything I take on. Understanding what motivates people is at the core of what I bring to the table. And what motivates me is a steadfast belief that I can make a difference. I can help make the world a safer more verdant place with what I do everyday in my business as well as in my family.

We all have our gifts. And although I’ve worked with a lot of “big deal” clients in the past, I now choose to use mine to help elevate non-profits, local small businesses, sustainable startups, and anyone else whose vision includes improving the conditions of people and planet.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Indeed, there have been many a bump in the road. But… I fully credit these hardships for making me the patient, determined, resilient, level-headed, problem solver I am today. I’ve always done my best to face each hardship with integrity, learn from my mistakes, and then let it fade into the distance. I do not dwell on my struggles, nor let them define me. In fact, I am deeply grateful for all the rough waters. They washed all the jagged edges off this know-it-all… and revealed a wiser, smoother, gentler creature I am today.

Signals & Noise Agency is full service creative/strategic agency. We develop and execute trend-savvy, research-backed strategies that help businesses of all sizes communicate their excellence with precision. We offer impeccable creative direction and production for all the strategic milestones that require it.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Obviously I did not invent the wheel! I have simply taken priceless wisdom from all manner of experts I’ve met along the way, and mashed it up with my own experience, to inform my unorthodox approach.

From family members who modeled devotion to their passions to professional mentors who taught me critical skills I’d never otherwise know – I have been blessed with great teachers. Although there are dozens, I’ll focus on three.

John Croft directed the operational launch of such well-oiled, well-respected, world-renowned organizations as St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Park Slope Food Cooperative in Brooklyn. I was fortunate enough to meet and work with him and I refer to his proven strategies in every project I take on.

Tobias Wolff, the celebrated author and former Chair of Creative Writing at Stanford, is a distant uncle. As a teen I was in awe of his craft and his success. Later, I was even more in awe of the warmth, humor, and bottomless enthusiasm he would have for whatever I was up to. It meant so much to be that he was interested let alone earnestly encouraging. I always try to be as sincere and curious as he was with me. You never know when it may matter a great deal to someone.

My mom. I did not appreciate her when I was younger (and wilder) and thought being a kindergarten teacher was unambitious and dull. But I’ve come to see that the values and practices that help my clients reach their dreams… are the same values and practices that supported me in reaching mine. Listening actively. Lifting people up. Staying positive. Doing my best. And even now… knowing that slow and steady will always win the race.
