Meet Bast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bast.

Bast, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Queens born, NYC roots. Came to the west coast and studied classical music, specifically Opera. I enjoyed the challenge and I liked knowing different things than the other kids that were studying music.

I was actually in a pop/punk band and we went to south by southwest twice. Those times were rough. Sleeping in cars with nowhere to stay. Playing at the bars on the outskirts of the festival were the forsaken and lost souls from the long day came to hydrate and mostly sleep.

After moving to LA, I was told by so many people that I was difficult to record. I attribute that to only knowing how to perform live without a mic. Opera gives you so many chore muscles to support and project but does not teach you how to record in a studio in a tiny booth that pics up every breath.

So I had to relearn my craft. “Find my sound” I think a lot of people have been there. Wondering if you even got it.

Even through all the doubts, if you are doing what you love all the way, you come out on top. I’ve written with some amazing people, am in the works on the dopest projects and I’ve only just begun.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is beautiful and full of creative life.

I think starting where you come from is the key. Start in your hood. Create that buzz. Get your neighbors brothers and cousins behind you. Then take the leap with the support from your people, because you know you got something good from the growth you experienced in a smaller place.

LA is where you take your dreams to another level.
