Meet Ayda Rezaimalek of Maiden Seed in Mar Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayda Rezaimalek.

Ayda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The day I learned that I had a precious life inside of me, my priorities immediately began to change. Once my baby started to move and kick, I developed a new connection with my body and began consciously thinking about the body products that I used for self-care. I started rethinking the popular products I had used in the past that are bottled in a factory. I searched for skin products, with traceable ingredients, made by small brands, that I knew were safe for me and my growing baby.

My daily self-care rituals are so much more to me than products. They are a part of me. And those rituals are influenced by my own cultures (my parents are from Vietnam and Iran and I was born in the Southwest) in addition to the rich cultures of the places I’ve visited, from Africa to Asia and so many lands in between. Each of those cultures have simple approaches to the journey of pregnancy and typically look to the natural compounds in the plants around them to care for their needs.

Drawing from the cultures that define me, I was inspired to create all-natural, organic body oils, each infused with unique seeds from those places. The Baobab tree and the Prickly Pear cactus, each delivers a unique benefit to the skin, and each embodies the cultures where they’re from. I wanted to infuse a touch of culture every morning when I moisturize after showering and every evening before dreaming of future adventures with my baby. I wanted to create a simple body oil for mothers, fathers and babies, where every ingredient was honest.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wish!

It’s challenging to stand out among an ocean of products.

Products that have strong branding, financial backing, and development. It takes a lot of courage to put your story out there, and at the end the day that’s what makes your product special and different.

Maiden Seed – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in finding and blending all-natural, organic, oils that are simple and pure. What I mean by simple and pure is that there’s no other chemicals or ingredients mixed in with them.

My mission was to share with the world that we don’t need all these fancy products that are out in the market. We can use what Mother Nature provides us with.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
Los Angeles is an AMAZING city to launch any business. The key to success is really getting yourself out there and meeting people. You never know who will open a door to the break you need.
