Meet Austin Thach of The Forefront Group in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Thach.

Austin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Baltimore, MD had a father that worked two-three jobs, and my mom was working also but was the main person that was there during my childhood. I grew up in an abusive household – as years pass my parents had separated I was disowned by my father around high school, and I was working three jobs just like him. I was always a social butterfly, but I did have to grow up fast.

I was driving to work before I even had my license. I would get lunch money for school and forced myself not to eat so I could save that money for other things. Fast forward I had gotten a full ride to North Carolina A&T and also a partial scholarship to ODU, but I ended up going to East Carolina University because at the time they had an amazing Physical Therapy program that I was on track to get into.

I was highly involved made a name for myself on campus and in different organizations then soon after I realized the health industry was NOT for me. I loved music and all things entertainment and branding – I enjoyed being around people and talking to people.

I switched my major to communications with a concentration in Public Relations despite everyone’s conception of “thats an easy way out for a degree” I knew I could do something with it. I quickly switched to become an online student moved to Atlanta to work with a mentor I had at the time along with working my first big-time corporate job in Sales for Hilton Hotels.

Things were going well! Until mental health hit me hard. I was depressed “trying” to juggle a social and love life, school, corporate, and entrepreneurship all at once. I went to therapy which I recommend to everyone. Now two years go by, and I was offered an opportunity in Los Angeles of a lifetime – which I decided it didn’t feel right and not every opportunity is a good opportunity regardless of the money or how big the company may be.

But I still promised myself I would move out here with the intention of accelerating my career and expanding my network on the west coast. A few months before my move out here I broke my lease at my apartment, sold completely everything except my clothes, and lived from couch to couch until it was time to move.

During this time, I started up The Forefront Group, never in a million years would I thought I’d start my own company or have the guts to do so. But it kind of just happened, I needed money, and I had to make something work. I drove cross country from Atlanta GA to Los Angeles and a month after living there I was able to secure my first two clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Struggling with my inner-self, I’m way too hard on myself. I overthink a lot, and I don’t take care of my health as good as I would like to (I’m working on it). I’m a constant giver, and I’m willing to serve to others, and sometimes that can stab me in the back. Working in this industry, you have to have thick skin and learn not to take anything personally.

Also, working in entrepreneurship and how I make money is through my services, not a physical product. There are times where one month I’m making moneeyyyyyy and then the next I have a bad month. It’s up and down, so it forces you to constantly figure out ways to make more money and finding new clients. I used to hate the sales process but sales it part of any business.
