Today we’d like to introduce you to Astonn Hart.
Astonn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, around the age of 8 or 9, I was fortunate to have a close family friend by the name of Liney Hamilton Jr. give me my very first camera. I would often use it to take pictures of things in nature and it soon became my first creative medium. As I got older, I ended up putting the camera down and switching to other means of expression which caused me to nearly forget about my first love. Facing some financial hardships about seven years ago, I decided to start my first business as a personal stylist and interior decorator and soon realized that something was missing. I needed a camera so I could start capturing images of my work for my portfolio for perspective clients. Upon the advice of a photographer friend of mine, I went out and purchased my first DSLR. I made sure to purchase one that I could grow with in case I ever I wanted to do more with it, and Sure enough, I ended up falling back in love with photography. Due to trust and belief from some amazing friends giving me an opportunity, my passion soon transitioned into something far greater, Astonn Hart Visuals.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think the hardest struggle for me, and probably for a lot of other entrepreneurs, is trusting and believing in yourself. At some point, I chose to take a risk and put more effort and time into something that I wasn’t sure was going to be liked by others and lucrative enough to replace the income that I was making working for someone else. I recall a pivotal moment when I was on the fence about transitioning my hobby to a business that I had to make an important decision. I had to choose between emptying my savings to purchase a newer and better camera or use the same money to pay off a very expensive bill. The camera has proven to be the right choice. Thankfully my clients thus far haven’t been bashful at all with sharing who has taken their photos and refer their friends and others to me all the time. It makes things easier while also adding pressure, but I love every bit of it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Astonn Hart Visuals story. Tell us more about the business.
Astonn Hart Visuals provides its clients with a first-rate visual arts experience. We are a business that prides itself in capturing true emotion in every photograph or video that we capture. Though we specialize in portrait and event photography, we also provide video services of all kinds. I’d like to say that what my company is most known for is giving our customers much more than what they’ve paid for. Since those that I employ (myself included) love what we do, it’s extremely hard to limit the number of images we give back to our clients, which is almost unheard of in this business. We are extremely proud of the fact that we love what we do so the work seems effortless. As a company, I think what sets us apart is that we make sure to create a closer relationship with our clients so that they’re no longer clients but more like friends and family. We make sure to learn as much about them and their backstories as we can. This allows us to experience a natural empathy and it comes out in the images we capture.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry is constantly evolving. With even smarter technology releasing almost every day, it’s making it easier and easier for people to capture images. Almost everyone these days has a smartphone with a pretty decent camera on it and at one point or another, tries their hand at being a photographer or videographer. Fortunately for creatives such as myself, my experience and willingness to grow with the industry keeps me ahead of the curve for now. As the ability to capture becomes easier, more and more will attempt to use their devices to try to tap into their creative sides.
