Meet Ashley Vonshae’ of AV Fashion House (AVFH) in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Vonshae’.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been inspired by brands like Fubu, Karl Kani, Sean John and much more ever since I was a kid. I always knew I wanted to become a mogul in some shape or form. I started making clothes my junior year of college with my best friend. We would print t-shirts and sell them out the trunk, and after probates and events. After graduating college in 2013, I kept designing clothing but I wasn’t happy with the actual brand I was pushing. 2015, I moved to LA and decided to rebrand from the ground up. This time, I was going into this venture alone and decided to self-title it. After much research and trial and error, AVFH released its first product, the AV beanie in 2018. Since then, AV has been adding new styles and products including, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, Snapbacks and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any business, clothing lines are difficult to start and even more difficult to maintain. My goal is longevity within the industry so remaining timeless is a big component of the brand. I encountered many obstacles while building. One of the hardest was going from a partnership to being the sole owner. Another obstacle I faced was tearing everything down and rebranding….twice! It took me a while to find my lane. At one point, I was doing and creating everything that was already trendy, my brand story wasn’t clear, which made marketing ineffective. So once again, I had to start over. This time I actually took my time and mapped out the brand‘s story. I started studying other brands like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and realized that all these brands were self-titled, so I decided to do the same thing with AV.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
AV Fashion House (AVFH) is a self-titled clothing brand by Ashley Vonshae’. We specialize in apparel ranging from t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and shorts. Our goal is to be known for providing comfort luxury wear for those that appreciate where they come from, but who also want more and are doing everything in their power to manifest it. AV takes pride in manifestation and the mindset of not giving up on yourself. As a company, I’m proud that I never gave up because most people probably would’ve. I’m proud to say that the brand stands on its own. We definitely have more ways to go, but I’m very proud of how far we came. My passion for the industry, my passion for timeless pieces is what’s going to set the brand apart from others.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very determined kid. From the jump, I knew I wanted to be some type of entrepreneur. There were many sides to me as a kid. Growing up, I was influenced by so much around me, that I was constantly recreating myself. I was born and raised in Charleston, SC and there’s a lot of history there which always intrigued me. The culture runs deep within the Gullah community, so that was always apart of me. But I’ve always been a thinker, an innovator. Being the oldest of my siblings, I constantly wanted to learn as much as I can, so I could teach them. My interest always varied from sports to music. My music interest was very eclectic at an early age. I started playing instruments in elementary school. As time went on, I became more involved in music and eventually joined middle school and high school band. My interest in music leads to a marching band scholarship, which I’m proud of to this day because it propelled me in the right direction.
